Road Trip from Philly to San Fran

Hi All - I was recently admitted to grad school at UC Berkeley and I'm planning on making a road trip across country to move out there. I'm most likely moving from Philly to the Bay Area in late July. Has anyone gone on a similar road trip? Any suggestions? Thanks.

First off, congratulations.

Formalities out of the way... Leave early, and spend as much time as possible in Vegas.

avoid I-70 at all costs ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz (worst through Illinois and Kansas). However, the Kansas Turnpike from Emporia to Topeka is stunning.

In fact, if you have the time, avoid the interstate as much as possible. Try and follow the old Route 66 as much as possible. That will be something to talk about for the res of your life.

If you're going the Route 66/I-44 way, you could come to my house and say hi.

Eat at Ted Drewes Frozen Custard or Pappy's Smokehouse in St. Louis.
Eat at Primanti Bros. in Pittsburgh.

There's a way to link this to #GIGGASmove. I just know there is.
