Cheating by Bumping up Attributes

So I started my Mets association back in May and since then Sony or whatever has released a lot of roster updates and they have updated some of the Mets players attributes since then. Is it cheating or sketchy if I raise the attributes in my franchise to what they are in the roster update? Keep in mind I'm having having trouble hitting.

I don't think it would be considered "cheating".

First of all it is your franchise so you can do whatever you want. I'm sure some people out there bump up a lot of ratings.

Second if you just started your franchise later the ratings would be up anyway.

Re: Cheating by Bumping up Attributes

I always ask myself these kinds of questions, and it can go in circles:

Is it cheating?

I'm playing myself, how can it be cheating?

But who is more important than myself, really, so isn't cheating myself worse than cheating someone else?

I don't know. But really, it's all about how you want to play. Want to go 162-0 and win 20 straight World Series? Cool! Bump everyone to 99s across the board, and good luck! Who is it hurting?

If you want more realism, great, that's there, too, and everything in between. So, while it's worth discussing and thinking about, it really comes down to lines you draw for yourself, with only yourself to be accountable to.

I guess if online leagues ever develop to a worthwhile extent, these questions will become slightly different, but as long as we're all playing our franchises in our own little universes, we are all omnipotent.

I do a quick boost to guys like Bautista in my franchise, just to be able to keep up with Fielder and Cabrera in year 1. Those guys are absurd!

Re: Cheating by Bumping up Attributes

I went with the March 3rd SCEA Spring Training Rosters. Just last night, I "cheated" by boosting Ardonis Chapman's control by one notch. That's all, just one notch. Thats just because I know his control has improved from last year slightly.
I don't know. It kinda corrupts the purity of what I was trying to do. Yet, I really want my Chapman to be as dominant as he is in real life.
I looked at his stats in my Franchise.... 4 innings, 4 strikeouts, 4 walks, and a 4.50 ERA. I wanted something better.

Re: Cheating by Bumping up Attributes

If I want to see real baseball, I go to the ballpark or watch baseball on TV. If I want to have fun playing a video baseball game, I play MLB The Show 12.

I am not going to duplicate what is happening in real baseball, so I just play for fun.

Re: Cheating by Bumping up Attributes

Does bumping up attributes affect player progression?

I started my franchise a while back and bumped up some players on my team and others to better reflect reality, and some players on my team haven't had +/- values added to them yet, teams that I sim appear to get these values and players I didn't touch do too. I am currently 3 days before the trade deadline.
