German Roots

Hi,
is there a school with German roots, like Boston or Notre Dame with their Irish roots?
Thanks.

Re: German Roots

Many German immigrants settled in Western, PA, so maybe Pitt has German roots?

I have already searched for some informations regarding German immigrants. Nebraska and Wisconsin are pretty German as well.
Pitt would be a decent Team for a Dynastie.

Re: German Roots

Like the above poster said you are best looking into the Pennsylvania Dutch regions.

You probably have your hands full trying to find a school with definitive German roots. Maybe see if a school has or had an official affiliation with a Lutheran or other Germanic church.

Florida State has a German defensive end: Bjoern Werner. He's very good.

Re: German Roots

West Virginia had a decent amount of German immigrants, too, so you could go with WVU. However, there really aren't any truly "German" schools like there are with the Irish.

The Irish were mostly Catholics, hence Notre Dame and Boston College. Germans are a mix of Protestants and Catholics.

Re: German Roots

Was thinking about this earlier today and noticed somebody beat me to it.

The reason the Irish Catholic Schools exist is because the Irish Catholics were very much discriminated against. German immigrants came primarily from Prussia and other North German kingdoms and were therefor mostly Protestant unlike Catholic Bavaria and Austria, and were, in general, more accepted as white, Protestants who already had a long history of settlers in America going back pre-revolution.

Fun Fact: King George III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was the third monarch from the House of Hanover and the first to speak English as a first language.

Also, look into Southern Methodist University. Texas was a popular immigration zone for Germans and many protestant immigrants would convert to other protestant religions if no church was available for themselves.
