Meter and analog stick

I've heard several times before that when you're using meter pitching you have to keep the left analog stick in place even after selecting the pitch and pitch location. For example, if I choose to throw a pitch low and away, after I press X and the meter is running, do I still have to keep the left analog stick low and away?
