Seattle Seahawks - 2009 and beyond

After very many unsuccessful tries at running an fblog and a career at once I am going to try to maintain a presence here and going to try to start and finish a career as the Seahawks' skipper.

I don't care how I win, I just want to win

Rules that I have to follow:

1) I cannot allow more than $20.00M in cap penalties by the end of the year.

2) I must always have $15.00M in free space available before the start of the next Free Agency period.

3) I cannot have more than 12 draft picks in a draft year.

4) No motivator skill at all during the game.

5) No less than 45 players on the roster during the period between the draft and the Post Season.

If I break any of these I will re-start the game. I'm ready for a challenge.

My trait: Commander.

With the 2008 season behind us, it is time to begin the 2009 Season. We finished the year 12-4 and lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round.

I have kept most of my staff but I'm bringing Andre(I think that's his name) Bishop, level 5 skills across the board.

I have $35.00 to spend.

I have put Matt Hasselbeck and Marcus Trufant(Franchise tag) on the trade block, because I am planning on trading up in the draft to get either QB Morgan Barnes, or Chris Essex. Mike Zazzali is an automatic 1st overall pick, and I do not want to give up a lot for him.

We are ready for the new year!

I decided to run the 2009 offseason today, so here is an update.

2009 is where it all begins.

The 2009 offseason was a quite one for the Seahawks, so they could afford to save $$$ for draft picks. They did however, sign a few players, each for around $4.0 - $5.0M. I don't remember who though.

It's draft day!

Most of the fans in Seattle were expecting a Quarterback to be drafted in the first round with Paul Lacey. The Seahawks gave up their #24th pick and their 2010 3rd Round pick, and their 2010 5th Round pick.

However, the Seahawks had a different plan in mind.

Roger Goodell: "With the 18th pick in the NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks select, Geno King, MLB, West Virginia."

Yes, clearly a different plan in mind. However, the Seahawks wanted needs, not value. with their second pick, the #32 pick in the NFL draft, they selected Kenton Kasom, whom many people compare to Brian Westbrook.

Probably one of the biggest diamonds in the rough the Seahawks selected was Benji Farms, a Quarterback with an 88 overall potential with their 5th round, #24 pick.

Complete Seahawks 2009 Draft:

1, #18th: MLB Geno King
1, #32nd: HB Kenton Kasom
3, #24th: WR Donny Garrot
5, 24th: QB Benji Farms
7, 24th: RE Julious Simmons

Early in the Preseason the Seahawks decided they wanted Benji Farms to be their QB. So they decided to trade QB Matt Hasselbeck to the Cleveland Browns for a 2010 Third Round pick. It was a big hit($4.0M), however it saved up a huge amount of free space in $9.0M. We now have $25.00M in Free Space. During the beginning of the year we had Franchise-tagged CB Marcus Trufant for $8.50M. So if we can somehow trade him away, we will have around $33.00M in free space. The Seahawks have money to spend and a very good future!

It is now officially a rebuilding year for the Seahawks.

I am following. I like the rule about no motivator. I used that upgrade one time and it made everybody a superstar. The game lost any challenge it had and have never used it again.

I agree. The Motivator upped my player's potential level by about 5 points per player which made the game to easy.

Good rule
Motivator should really only be used if you're new to the game or you want to jump ship and need to take a loser team to competitive level. Say you coach one squad for 5-7 years and get bored. You're already saving up points by then anyways cause you've been killing everyone for a year or 2 at least if not the whole career. Why not go to the worst team in the league, get a good draft in, sign everyone, get through preseason, then use it. Will make that 1st regular season a lot easier with said terrible team.

The other time you could use it and it would be worthwhile is if you have cap trouble and have to lose a lot of key players due to big contracts. Especially if you're on a path where 2 or 3 drafts in a row are kinda "BUSTY", no real superstars, then its beneficial and worthwhile.
