General rule using power swing...

To be quite honest I never use power swing. My knowledge using contact swing is more enjoyable. Meaning if you time the pitch right you will get doubles, triples, home runs. It's all about having patience. You will also get bloopers. If you work the count I don't see why anyone use power swing. I much rather hit base hits than having a solo blast.

Nah. Go big or go home. Power swing on 2-0, 3-1 counts all day!

I think it's just more fluid with contact swing, IMO.

I agree. Half the time using power swing on a 2-0 count with perfect timing, the ball is popped up (I use timing). I get more home runs using a normal swing than a power swing.

Only time I ever use power swing is on a 3-0 count and even then, I rarely swing. Computer doesn't often groove a fast ball right down the middle on a 3-0. I haven't gotten several homeruns like that, but more often than not, I take the pitch.

Cant really elaborate on the power swing this year but previous years I had no luck on contact on power swing.

Re: General rule using power swing...

For me, power swing rarely does anything. Unless it's a curveball on the inside part of the plate, or a fastball down the middle, it'll most likely be a pop-up (even if it is an ideal pitch, it's still very hard to hit a home run).

I feel like I jinx myself by actually trying for a homer. Either that, or the game hates me.

Home Runs will come when you expect it using contact swing. I hit a lot of gappers that translate to doubles. Playing in Minute Maid Stadium hitting the ball off of the Crawford Box will help you as well. I strikeout a lot therefore I don't see how power swing would help me. Sure everyone entitled to their own stragey. JD Martinez belted a bomb for me last night and boy it was sweet how he timed the pitch and touted as he knew that baby was a definitely goner. Then Jason Castro crushed one but the wind played a factor and Micheal Cuddyer robbed him with a leap at the right field wall. If the wind is on your side you will see home runs. It's seems the weather has major influence on this year Show. And of course the stadium you play in matter as well. All I can say be patience at the plate and your offense power will show up.
