had some really good safeties. not that many good cornerbacks. on my current team, my best CB is actually a former SS, Kenny Phillips.
Juran Riley is doing.. ok. not great, but ok

Juran Riley gets my vote, but Waddle is very close. I don't know if it's just the man coverage defense I use, but after about a season, Riley goes nuts for me and become Deion Sanders on steroids. Which is odd, because I recall them saying how he struggles in man druing the draft.

Juran isnt a terrible man defender. But he's prolly doing as well for you at it because you probably blitz a lot/enough. That makes it so he doesnt have to man up as long in coverage.
When you're sending 5-6 blitzers, the qb usually only has 2-4 seconds to get rid of the ball. Thats not a lot of time for routes to develop. If you're just doing straight man and no blitz whatsoever than you must have a beast dl, cause it can be difficult to get a 3-4 man pass rush working efficently.

If you're looking for a sleeper in the english draft path at cb, Joel tatum is a 99 speed and acc if I remember correctly and has a 92 potential in his rookie season think its the dexter foley draft which is like the 2nd created one. His only real drawback is he's short at 5'10 but he can become beastly if given a year or two to develop. Love using him in the slot as my d sends the nickle back all the time on blitzes. He was compared to sheldon brown I think and he was a 3rd rounder.

I don't really blitz much at all. I typically just play standard 4-3 defense with 2 safties deep and my LB's playing man coverage on back and tight ends. In that draft path though, I usually do pick up Xavier Cox and Patrick Lopez. That';s prettymuch as far as I build my D-line,but Cox gets a bunch of sacks. Still, even when i'm not getting the pressure in games, Riley more or less winds up shutting down whatever WR he's stacked against in most seasons.

There are a lot of corners to be had in the 2-4 round range in the English path though. Usually any Charles Woodson or Ty Law comparison is in the 90's in potential, and there are a pretty good number of those guys in that path.

Re: who is the best cornerback in nfl head coach 09?

Yeah, xavier cox and patrick lopez would be enough. Patrick wont get that high a sack total but his strength forces teams to double him or at least focus on him which makes the tackle one on one vs cox a lot. I bet you got some badass lbs too like knox or bomani or simms. Im not saying this like its a bad thing either, just showing how stars in one place make a star in another perform better, thats all.

And Yeah, there are a ton of them, but I havent seen that many where they have 99 in both speed and acc as well as mid 70s coverage(As a rookie). Not many that go later than the first at least. Thats what gives joel an edge in my opinion. He's so fast that no one out runs him unless he misses a tackle(not that often really). He also ruins pass plays if he's rushing the qb. Its either a sack, sack fumble, forces an interception or an incomplete pass usually cause the qb cant set his feet. It does take a little time though for him to get this good.

You are correct though, even the ones compared to tillman work out pretty well in that path. This one guy from that same draft(dexter foley(jack english path), Last name Castle(I think tyrel castle), pretty sure he's from navy and he's 6'3. He's my go to guy this franchise against players like C Johnson M kelly, Stovall, Roy williams, limas sweed(6'3+/ tallest reciever) . You just cant get away with using one of these 5'10 guys against those giants on the outside, not often at least, better have some hops!

Oh, I know what you are saying about the talent level of my defense in that career. It's the English path and all,so you'd haveto work extremely hard NOT to get a load of talent at every position. I can't really remember what LB's I had to be honest. It's been awhile, and i tend to lose interest in that draft path pretty early just because of how stacked my team turns out to be.

Most of those late round steals names change randomly between carreers though, so I can't really pinpoint which ones I'm talking about since I never remember the schools. There's a chance I might have had Castle, just not be familiar with the name.
