JoeRyan33 HOF Sliders

Pretty much done modifying these. Absolutely thrilled with how the game plays now, feels massively improved. Enjoy.

Main issues with the game on default:
  • Fielder's throws too strong.
  • Base runner speed and fielder's overpowered throws combined led to plays never developing, made fielding feel choppy.
  • Fielders moving too quickly, outfielders running balls down too easily.
  • Opposing pitcher control too good, even back end starters hitting the corners with ease and locating pitches at the knees too much.
  • A few too many foul balls from CPU.
  • Too many hits were liners splitting the gaps.
  • CPU overly disciplined, rarely ever chasing good breaking pitches.

I use zone+analog hitting, and pure analog pitching with the analog meter made as small as possible. This way it makes control difficult without having to adjust the user control slider and having the negative effect upon cpu contact.

I turned the throwing meter off on defense for the sake of animations and smoother play. I find my throws get erratic using it.

Camera Angles I use:

Based on Offset Catcher. I feel this view gives a good view of the ball coming in, definitely hit better on this than the views based on the Catcher cam.

Improvements due to sliders:
  • Ball comes off the bat with proper zip, gets over fielder's heads, gets into the corners for extra base hits.
  • Constant weak gappers are a thing of the past.
  • CPU will now chase pitches, breaking balls actually get swings and misses.
  • Greatly reduced bat through ball animations.
  • Much better variety of hits and outcomes, looks like baseball.
  • CPU pitchers pitch smart, but can't simply paint the corner at will.
  • Baserunner speeds and arm strength matched to real life times.
  • Pitch speed now like real life.

did you try using TNK's? To me his are pretty good. I will also give yours a try and give you my thoughts.

Most of what I was trying here are based on TNK's work.

One big issue I was having which I'm working to address are the unwillingness of the CPU to chase balls just out of the zone. I dropped CPU contact and power to 4. It seems to be working so far, can get guys to chase on good sliders, etc. I got Jason Heyward to chase on a high fastball and low slider and miss like he seems to IRL.

I've also been messing around with the base runner speed and clocking it with a stopwatch. Fpr example, at base runner speed of 2, I clocked Michael Bourn at 4.1 from point of contact to first base. Dan Uggla I nailed on a stolen base attempt (1B to 2B), close play, and clocked him at 3.4 seconds. IRL, 3.2 seconds is the accepted time you need to best to be successful on most base stealing attempts.

Work in progress. I appreciate you trying them out... I'll update them after I test some more. I want to get these down in time for starting my franchise.

Re: JoeRyan33 HOF Sliders

The more I test, the more I feel influenced by Bobhead's sliders. They may look a bit extreme, but he's on to a few things that no other set seems to be adequately addressing.

I've tried them out a little with the time I have and they do seem to not always chase like they do in RL. Base running to me is just kind of a problem over all in this game. Hopefully it can get smoothed out overall.

Made some pretty big changes to them now. The only big remaining issue for me is whether or not to tone down the CPU hitting just a bit. CPU pitching is where I want it to be.

Re: JoeRyan33 HOF Sliders

Gonna try these later tonight when the wife goes to bed. I have also based my sliders off TNK....But I am tempted to try yours.....I too want a set the makes the cpu chase pitches and #5 starters not paint the black.....I was using 2/2/2 for cpu pitching sliders.....getting about 60 to 68% strike percentage from cpu....what kind of strike percentage are you getting with this set? And bout how many walks are you drawing a game? Thank you for taking the time to make this great game even better!

You could try dropping the pitch control down to 2. I've been trying it between 2 and 3...not really seeing them paint the black too often. I've been facing mostly #1's and 2's in exhibition games.

The pitch speed was the big change I made today, and I find I actually strike out a bit less since I feel I can time the fastball at proper speed.
