When to pitch inside?

So I've noticed a pattern in my pitching. I generally am a very good pitcher but I noticed I almost NEVER go inside. I usually pitch down or away from the hitter, occasionally throwing a heater up high for a swinging strike.

I know going inside is important so when should I pitch inside and what types of pitches are best for this? Does it depend on L/R matchups?

Re: When to pitch inside?

I try to stay away from going inside also, just because if you leave it over the plate the computer seems to always crush it. I try to only go inside if I have a pitch that's moving towards the batter in hopes I can jam him. For example, with a righty I'll throw two seamers inside to a RHB but nothing else. With a righty pitching to a LHB, I'll try to break sliders in on their back foot or throw a low inside CB...but even then sometimes I'll hang one over the plate and they'll crush it...

My main issue is throwing changeups...no matter where I throw them, if they're in the strike zone the computer crushes them. I'm finding I have to throw them either outside or low for a ball and hope the computer chases...

Re: When to pitch inside?

Sometimes you bust a fastball inside on the first pitch and surprise them and they take it for a strike.

This happens too. Especially when I mess up and hang a slider...then the computer somehow will pull a 450' HR on a low outside changeup...SMH

Re: When to pitch inside?

I always go inside on a 0-2 pitch, mostly on lefties vs lefty match ups

I always go inside especially online. It takes faster timing to hit those balls. And a lot of the time the end up being fouled pop ups or shattered bats.

I like to use a fastball and cutter combination. I will throw fastballs for strikes high and inside and cutters for balls high and inside. These pitches also help fool batters with your curve because it looks like its coming high before the bottom drops out.

Sidearmers are deadly pitching this way.

I go inside, and I usually use fastball. You don't want to throw soft stuff inside it will get crushed. I really like to go in on 0-2 or right after throwing it outside for 2 or 3 pitches.

Re: When to pitch inside?

My one gripe about this series has always been the ineffectiveness of pitching inside and in general, how the mechanic of pitching works; it doesnt seem like you can "outsmart" or "setup" the CPU hitter, at least on a somewhat consistent basis. I know its a hard thing to replicate in a video game, but still. Pitching inside is absolutely vital to success in real life. In this game, you could have a dude setup perfectly for an inside fastball, hit your spot, and it ends up in the seats. I generally have decent success if i keep it up and in and just off the plate, but yea, in real life, you dont have to be that precise if you are throwing inside in the right situations to most hitters

For you guys talking about using it in specific counts, thats really not the idea and purpose of pitching inside.
