The more and more i play NBA 2K12 the more i realize how bad the game play is. Passing, dribbling, rebounding, positioning, contact, change of speed/direction, the list goes on and on. It really looks like 2K just polished off 2K11 with better graphics and shipped the game out just like that. But the one game play aspect that gets to me is movement in general

moving on defense:

It feels like the players are on skates. This is the jump I noticed off the bat when going from 11' to 12'. Everytime you move your analog stick anything from your player turning around, to moving 5 steps in one direction, to jogging, and even getting stuck in an animation (People who play My Player really know what i mean) It's just frustrating really.

moving with the ball:

This is the game breaker for me. There's just no change of pace/direction or anything. Everyone knows the best ball handlers are suppose to have multiple speeds and should be able to change direction on a dime. But in 2K there's only 3 speeds. Walking (up court), jogging (no turbo), and turbo. The iso motion really needs an upgrade. You can't go from an in-out to a behind the back or to a crossover in seconds.

Dribble moves are just animations, and you have to wait for the animation to play out before proceeding. In fact I find using isomotion to be more punishing then rewarding. Losing control, not going were you intended, bumping into another player (that's another story). How many times have you "accidentally" ran out of bounds? Too many times if you ask me. It just seems like the controls are geared toward the causal gamer (not a bad thing). But we hardcore b ball fans want a game were we can control when we put the ball through out legs, when we go behind the back, I would love to see users having COMPLETE control over sizeups and etc. The control scheme just isn't helping. Not much skill is required to be good at this game. Contrasting to games like Fifa or MMA/UFC were skill is required to be top tier. Any 12 year old can pop in a online game run around with Lebron james and dunk all game

I can go on and on on this topic but you guys get what I mean. This isn't a rant i just wanted to get my 2 cents in and hopefully a 2k dev will see this and see my point.
It's almost impossible to play with guys like CP3, Rondo, DRose, the guys who use speed and quickness to get where they want on the floor.

Re: Whats the worst gameplay aspect in this game?

I selected contact because that is the biggest issue concerning me in 2k12. Hopefully 2k13 will be better than 2k11 was in terms of contact. I like the point you made about skill though. FIFA is a tough game to be a pro, and I can say this from personal experience since I'm not too good at it lol. In 2k12 it doesn't take much but I think if 2k expanded the game with more moves and made iso motion more advanced, the game would be much better. Make it so it takes lots of practice to become an actual iso-motion pro, where you can really hurt people off the dribble.

This plays into contact as well as its almost impossible, or at least much harder than it needs to be, to take advantage of a PG vs. bigman mismatch. Anyone who watches basketball knows the dancing that occurs when a skilled ball handler like Chris Paul has a center like Andrew Bynum matched up on him. In 2k12, on the other hand, the sliding physics and contact shows no difference in mismatches.

2k needs to erase the contact in 2k12 for 2k13, go back to 2k11 and expand on that. Just my two cents.

I still don't think passing is as big of a problem as most feel. I think most of us just don't know how to pass and are used to games allowing us to pass however we like without consequence and now since we no longer have that luxury we blame the game instead of ourselves. Almost like how a student gets away with things with 1 teacher but his next teacher doesn't let those things fly. Well according to the student, teacher #2 is "mean." 2K12 is "mean" when it comes to passing.

I chose contact, I can't get an understanding of what "good contact" is on defense. The computer will iso and start crossing over to drive to the rim, then I'll stand in front of them and instead of getting contact, sometimes my defender will just be pushed into the lane. Also, the shot quality feedback doesn't seem accurate. There are plenty of times when I'll jump as the computer shots and, even with a hand in their face, the shot quality will still be a B. But, I'll have an open shot with a defender trying to run at me and even though there's space between us when I release, the shot quality will say D.

Passes for me. I can't stand not having the option to throw the type of pass I want. When I want a snappy pass, it's lofted. When I want to loft one over a fronting defender, it goes directly to him. Can't bounce pass when I want. And so on...

Defensive movement is a close 2nd though. Too much sliding. This was an improvement in '11. Not sure what happened.

Re: Whats the worst gameplay aspect in this game?

All of the above , is a mix between all of those things. The game is so frustrating this year. But if I have to choose one it would be player movement, specially your cpu teammates. I hate when I have a WIDE OPEN player at the 3pt line, I pass the ball to him and the guy randomly decides to cut to the congested lane resulting in a turnover. I hate when I have a very good pick and pop option with Aldridge wide open at the top of the key, but he decides to step back to the 3pt line when I pass him the ball...

Very frustrating
