Question about the Wind

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not . Maybe I'm just confused . If the wind is blowing IN (lets say 12 MPH) from right field to the 3rd base side . When a player hits a ball to right field wouldn't the ball hook more to center ? Why would the ball hook foul ?

That is what is happening ... looks like ...

Re: Question about the Wind

There's many factors to wind other than the fact that it's there. Generally speaking a ball that is hit higher will be affected more by the wind whereas one hit comparatively lower will be "shielded" more by the stadium, and also have less time to be affected since it is in the air for less time. Also, the wind is not ALWAYS blowing, under most circumstances.

A well struck, hard-hit ball will also likely be a little more resistant to the wind and fight against it more, showing less of a change in direction from it.

We also need to consider how different ballparks handle wind. Forgive me if this has been discussed, but I don't know for sure if the game has taken things like this into consideration, but it would not surprise me if it does. Some ballparks, however have balls react oddly in the wind. Some create a swirling effect, others somewhat reverse the direction of the wind as it blows in.

There's numerous different possibilities that can affect how a ball reacts in the wind. If we can somehow eliminate all of them then we could probably pinpoint what you are experiencing as a bug.

Re: Question about the Wind

its a bug. If the arrow says the wind is blowing in from right at 14 mph, the game log wil say it is blowing in from LEFT. basicly, you have to look at the game log to see which direction the wind is actually blowing

Slightly different than the original post, haha. Not sure what's causing that, though, except maybe the wind changed direction during the game and the log shows how the wind was blowing when the game started? The game I'm playing right now shows the wind blowing to right center in the pause screen (in the 8th inning) with the game log saying "wind blowing to Center" So not really sure what's causing the issue for you.

Maybe try checking the wind direction at the start of the game as well as looking in the game log, then keep track of any changes in direction during the game?

Re: Question about the Wind

it can slow the hook, but if the balls rotation is causing it to hook that waty it can cut through the wind, much like real life

Re: Question about the Wind

Being an ex pitcher, The answer to this is simple. The force a baseball makes in movement, generally 90-100 MPH from a pitchers hand and 100-115MPH off a bat isnt affected so much by the wind as you think, generally the only part affected is the amount of movement on the ball. For example, when pitchers throw, even if the wind is facing them, you dont see the ball curving back toward them even though the wind is blowing that way, you just see more break out of offspeed pitches if the wind is blowing from home to the pitcher, and less break if the wind is blowing from the pitcher to home. Batted balls work the same way. If the wind is blowing in hard from right field, and you hit a ball with spin to right field, the ball is only going to curve more in the direction the spin is moving it, whether it be to the right or left
