2k's "slip n slide" physics and lack of contact (youtube video included)

I finally got my video camera up and running, so I recorded some video. This shows one of the more annoying things about 2k12 - how annoying is it when you have your defender positioned right in front of the ball handler, but the game just makes your defender slide left or right and the ball handler just slips past you when he should've collided with you?

In this video you see the lack of contact and realistic collision physics. I call this "slip n slide physics" - meaning a defender will be standing right in the path of the ball handler, but the game will make the defender "slip" left or right...so the 2 players will "slide" past one another rather than colliding - in these situations the physics behave as if the players are sheets of ice sliding past eachother. The players are like slippery cylinders with no friction.

update: Here's another video I just made showing more of the same, but this video also highlights the lack of contact on spin moves, hop-steps, and up-n-under shots. Prepare to rage.

update: here's another video I just made. Note: there is a weird glitch in these saved replays with OKC's uniforms-it gave them plain white uniforms for some reason.

Nice job, blues rocker.

This video is well put together and is really telling regarding on how body contact -- or lack thereof -- is handled in 2K12. What's going on here is pretty much the direct opposite of what frequently occurs in 2K11.

It may prove to be a difficult task, but 2K Sports has to find a proper medium and balance on addressing issues of body contact of the latest two NBA 2K games when developing their next one.

Question For you, Why not use custom rosters that have this stuff not happening in their game play? And Like the person said in your vid comments its the contact sliders....

Oh and BTW Heres the Embedded Vid:

Re: 2k's "slip n slide" physics and lack of contact (youtube video included)

It's a good video, but maybe misleading. The contact animation is engaged in these situations 70% of the time. I can't tell you how many times I think I have the step on the defender but rather than do a smooth layup like the ones in the video, the defender sticks to me and I do a lame jumpshot kind of thing sure to miss. Could it be a slider thing? Because honestly I kind of wish I saw more of this in the games I play.

I mean it seems a little nit-picky of you. It's strange how people expect video games to be like reality. I mean playing double dribble I never expected the players to move realistically. It's a game. Learn what happens, and strategize accordingly.

Isnt this the result of people complaining about contact animations last year?

Haha. It's cute that you think you know what you're talking about. In all of these clips my "Driving Contact Frequency" is at 88, and my "Inside Contact Frequency" is at 100 - epic fail for you.
