2012 OSFM: San Diego Padres

Surprisingly I wasn't the first one to put up these kinds of threads, simply because I haven't had a chance to. Like the other OSFM team threads, feel free to discuss any rosters and such about the San Diego Padres. The MLB level roster will be spot on, but prospects will get the nod over minor league fodder when necessary (so some AAAA players in Tucson will be skipped over for AA or AAA prospects because of the lack of room presented by Non-Roster Invitees):

Currently working on:
- Adding minor league players to replace any NRIs that leave: Done
- Gameplay test AA and AAA (10 games total, 1 for each starter): Done
- Sim statistics test: Done

NEW!
- Keeping track of any player movement and updating the spreadsheet to reflect roster movements and changes to lineups or rotations.

*The Roster file is ready to be handed off for faces*

Progress:
Player Information - 100 % Complete
Player Ratings - 100% Complete
Batting Stances and Pitching Motions - 100% Complete
Player Equipment - 100% Complete
Faces - GreatNorthern47

Google Doc Roster Spreadsheet

Updated 3-28-2012

All lineups/player information/etc. is available on the Google Doc Spreadsheet.

Nice list, Just some thoughts ...

- I think Peterson is worthy of a B- Pot, great speed, nice plate discipline + K-Law had a positive write-up in his sleeper list on him from the other day.

- Love Hedges as a A pot. His defense is really good and if that bat develops he could be one of the best all-around catchers in the game.

- I think Grandal should be a A pot. One of the best catching prospects in the minors, not as good as Hedges on defense, but a really good bat.

Really nice list, great job.

Re: 2012 OSFM: San Diego Padres

Thanks for the feedback yanksdaniel99. Jace Peterson is truly athletic and I'm thinking that the sleeper label shouldn't be applied to him anymore since just about every expert and source I've read and heard from have been speaking highly of him. I'm considering moving him up to a B-, but I want to see how the other rosters shape up as well. He's got the talent and I think at this point he's similar to Will Venable, but has the added benefit of being much younger than Venable when you compare the age of the two players when they both started their professional career.

The Padres have a deep system full of guys who could be at least major league average but really lack any prospect with superstar potential (Rymer Liriano certainly has the tools for it and Hedges in my opinion has a better shot, but his offense needs to develop in order for him to become an All-Star catcher).

I think Yasmani Grandal will be a solid major league catcher. I think he'd be on the borderline of an A- and B+.

Just some things to note:

1) Rymer Liriano is considered by most to be the Padres number 1 prospect. I could easily move him to an A- at the same level as Hedges.
2) Joe Ross will have a higher potential than Keyvius Sampson.
3) Matt Lollis as a SP would be a C+, he's now a RP and has been much better and projects better at it in my opinion. Might be bumped down to a B- (C through B's workout fine for MLB relievers).
4) Other single-A prospects being considered are:

C Rodney Daal
LF Everett Williams
SP John Barbato
SP Colin Rea

Yoan Alcantara was considered as well, until he ran into identity problems with MLB.

can we please get rid of Geer already haha

Do you plan on putting Brad Davis anywhere? I think he'll be at AAA this year after Spring Training

And the legend of The Carlos Quentin begins anew. I hope he does good for you guys, always liked Q. He just can never seem to stay healthy, or happy for that matter.

Geer's minor league baseball profile still lists his parent club as the Padres and he only made two starts last season due to skin cancer I believe. Suppan might end up replacing him in the roster set (as you can see listed under AAA, currently I'm at 91 players because the Suppan signing came after I filled out the roster).

I would suggest at least a C rating. He's probably not going to be an above average hitter at any level, but he is easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the minors. He's just a ball player. Also, he won't hurt your team because he does all of the little things better than most players.
