How do you get the updated roster on the Create a Legend mode?

I started the Creating a Legend mode with LBJ and noticed the roster is way out of date. I'm new to 2k12 and not sure if I have the updated roster or not. I'm also not sure how to update the roster. Sometimes when I go to manage roster I see shane battier,etc on the heat and sometimes I don't.

How do you get the updated roster at all? I have live and have attempted numerous times to get the latest without success. I use 360 and am new to 2k. Do they just update automatically when u log an online game like madden.
