The Last of Us: It's About Brain Fungus?
Viral video for the PS3 exclusive gives us something gross to think about.

What could bring about the end of the world? Brain fungus. The Last of Us website features the teaser trailer along with a video snippet of an ant. Eagle-eyed Internet people (like IGN reader Greg Osborne) figured out that the ant video is from an episode of BBC Planet Earth that focuses on cordyceps, a fungus. Seems the cordyceps gets into ants, takes over their brains, and grows from inside them. This kills them; shocking, I know. Here's the clip...

I have a feeling it might be one of the Move enabled titled from GC 2009, look at 1:20 and 1:39 time stamps.

I hope not...I am really intrigued by this idea and think it has some def potential. I like the idea of the cordyceps fungus and that it has a "28 days later" feel which is muey bueno. We shall see, with the PS3 power this game could do a ton.

I will follow this game. It's off to a great start. The name of the game is pretty intriguing and probably the only reason I watched the trailer. I hope it's not a Move game that attempts to save the Move from being completely useless.

And another date has been teased, too.

As promised by the date 12.07.11 placed discretely on the website for the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive The Last of Us, some new content has indeed been posted. It's the very first screenshot of the game. And yes, it looks quite photo-realistic. Click here for a bigger version of the screenshot. What does this tell us? Very little, unfortunately. After The Last of Us was revealed, we figured out, thanks to a wily IGN reader, that the initial footage of the game surrounded a fungus called cordyceps that affects ants. This imagery keeps in line with the nature theme shown in the video of the ant, taken straight from BBC Planet Earth. Additionally, another screen, seen below, shows the front of a newspaper in a disheveled newspaper dispenser. A picture of what appears to be the fictional President of the United States speaking in front of an American flag is on the right, with THE LAST OF US to the left. Underneath, it says "The President addresses a panicked nation as millions more are feared dead or infected." Click here for a bigger version of the screenshot. The quote box over the picture says: "Our union remains strong... The military is mounting large guns and securing additional quarantine zones. This is our turning point. We can not and will not become the last of us. Mankind will prevail." Other stories below that main story are titled "Texas, New Mexico Quarantine Fails" and "England Latest to Declare Martial Law." Hopefully we'll hear more about The Last of Us in between now and Saturday, when the game will finally be exposed for all to see at the Spike TV Video Game Awards (the next date teased on the website is December 10th, which is this Saturday).
