Should I wait for the patch before buying?

Been dying to get this game for a while, so I can ball with my Wizards and John Wall.

BUT -- this site has made me believe that the game is in desperate need of a patch, not to mention the rookies, FA moves, etc.

I haven't read through all the threads to know all the issues, but I remember everyone loving NBA 2K11 (myself included) last year. The tone for this years game is definitely different, and not in a good way.

So is it safe to say that I should wait and hope for the patch to make the game better? And that's when I should spend my money on it?

You shouldn't let people on OS decide what game you get, or what not to get.

With that being said, go ahead and get it. It's a good game already, with good sliders and rosters, it's really enjoyable. The patch will make it even better than it already is though. Rookies should be here soon, as well as roster updates.

If I could go back: No, I wouldn't buy it. But after a few months of 2k11 I didn't like that game very much either. It really depends on what aspects of it you're most interested in and just your expectations of a basketball game in general.

As of now, my copy is lent to a friend who regularly offers to return it, but I'll let her keep it until the patch drops. I'll give it a second look then. Trying to stay optimistic about the purchase, so we'll see.

My two cents:
Although 2k11 was a major step forward for the series it still had some shortcomings that made me pull my hair out on several occasions. But it was a great game overall so I had much fun with it despite its flaws.
Now, 2k12 has a whole set of improvements as well as a whole new set of shortcomings. And I'm again having much fun with it despite the latter.
(Offline Association on Pro with adjusted simulation sliders that is).

If that helps in any way

Yeah, I had to use sliders last year as well to enjoy the game. Which pair of sliders would you recommend using?

BTW, thanks everyone for responding.

Last year I did a lot of slider tweaking. That was not so good because every little deviation from average numbers made me think my sliders where wrong.
This year I just started out with standard sim sliders but took a few ideas from slimm44's work (on the PC forum) and what I read around here.
Noticable changes from standard simulation sliders are for me:
contact on drive: 25
contact near the rim: 25
help D strength: 80

Onball D is at 80 for me. Some people say that putting it to 0 stops the mirroring defense from mirroring. I wanted to try that next.

Other than that, I increased ball handling to 60 for the CPU and me to reduce the mis-dribbles when players bobble the ball on their own foot.

When playing on Pro level I can use even sliders for me and the CPU and get a good but fair challenge. (Maybe a tad too easy as I'm 18-9 in my current Blazers Association).

Re: Should I wait for the patch before buying?

Well it depends on your game library, there are tons of good games with high replay value, so you can wait till the patch, which it seems is not going to be release anytime soon, and by the time the patch arrives 2k12 should be cheaper and you should have the rookies out of the gates. IMO this isn't a bad game and I think when it is fully patched, this will be better than 2k11. But as of now, the game is very buggy imo, like they didn't really fully test the game (new and old glitches). New things which change the gameplay dramatically as in the collision system, ball physics, and ai need fixing, because they seem cheap.
