The Legend of Kobe Bryant 2K12: Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty

Welcome everyone to the continuation of The Legend of Kobe Bryant, the 2K12 edition. In case you are not familiar with my 2K11 Lakers Dynasty Association you can find it in this forum. I received a lot of great feedback from fellow users and made the whole experience really fun and exciting. Just a little review about my 2K11 Association, I made it to honor and tribute the best in the game today, Kobe Bryant (I know all the LeBron fanatics will argue otherwise, but until he wins a few rings he isn't in the Jordan, Magic, Bird, Kareem and Russell level yet). I never disregard that Kobe won 3 rings with Shaq, but that's also true the other way around, and I clearly state above anything else that both Jordan and Kobe were led by Phil Jackson to all eleven rings and that it was in two different decades where max salaries and superstar players were stretched out in the league. I don't want to go off on a rant so I will continue with my main thought, the Lakers who I controlled went through a rough 82 game season where they finished 56-26, first in the Western Conference. They defeated the Phoenix Suns in the first round, the Los Angeles Clippers in the second round, the San Antonio Spurs in the third round to matchup against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. They defeated the Heat in five games giving Kobe his sixth ring and Phil his fourth three peat. For some reason during the off season I was putting drafted players onto correct teams when I was unable to change back to the Lakers and it would freeze so I couldn't continue so I will continue with 2K12 except I will start off following this past NBA draft. I will go in the direction that there was no lockout and that players who signed overseas remain with their current teams. I'm using the Simulation Roster Project made by Paul Pierce for this Association along with sliders made for this roster set. I hope you enjoy reading and following. My goal is to see how many seasons I get out of Kobe before he retires.

Re: The Legend of Kobe Bryant 2K12: Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty

Yes forgive the number of threads, towards the end of my NBA 2k11 I experienced freezing and my harddrive crashing. The Mike Brown association is going to be with The Dynasty Roster Project when completed and this is my main association that I will be using so there will not be tons of threads I assure you unless freezing or damaged files turn their ugly head.

2011-12 Los Angeles Lakers Team Overview

With the 2011-12 season just about to start its time to breakdown the Lakers roster and grade the team in our official overview:

POINT GUARDS: C

Overview - Derek Fisher is probably in the final year of his celebrated career and looking to go out on top and give Lakers fans a memorable send off. Is he going to hear the same negativity he has the past three seasons? Yes he is but three out of the last four years he is the last point guard standing while Nash, Parker, Westbrook, and Brooks are on vacation. Still at 37 years old nobody comes better with timely and clutch shots in big games. Last season was one that Steve Blake would like to forget, and so would Lakers fans. Unable to grasp and find his way in the triangle hopefully a new system will be able to let Blake earn that $4 million a year the Lakers gave him. Drafting a point guard was a priority to the Lakers and they were able to come away with a steal in the second round picking up Darius Morris, a possible future starter if all things work out. He is young, quick, athletic and has a high upside, but look for this season to be spent between the d-league and spot minutes at best.

SHOOTING GUARDS: A
Overview - With Kobe Bryant as your star player and his skill level and the focus he puts into his craft, who else can you pick over him even with his nagging injuries. I would have to say until another player refuses surgery on a torn finger on his shooting hand and actually maintains the ability to hit his shots nobody comes close. Five rings and seven finals appearances, he's got three years left on his contract and I would have to bet that he can bring at least one more title to the Lakers franchise in that time. Shannon Brown who was a throw in when the Lakers traded away Vladimir Radmanovic has blossomed and last season was a coming out season. His outside shooting improved and his high flying highlights are among crowd favorites all over arenas. Andrew Goudelock another second round draft pick that made the roster will spend his time mostly in the d-league, but has the opportunity to develop into a decent perimeter shooter.

SMALL FORWARDS: B
Overview - Ron Artest might be coming off the worst statistical season of his career, but he can still match up against the best offensive player on the other team. He may have lost a step and isn't quite the Defensive Player of the Year, but he can still be the most expressive and unpredictable player on the court. Matt Barnes fully healed from his injury last season is hoping to give the Lakers and the fans a full season that can end on a high note. Luke Walton, who is still dealing with severe back issues is the not really in the Lakers plans as of late leaving open the spot for second year player Devin Ebanks who the Lakers are very high on. Ebanks, who spent most of his time last year in the d-league will have an opportunity to get some minutes this year.

POWER FORWARDS: B
Overview - Pau Gasol is in his prime, and is looking to rectify himself after last seasons poor showing in the playoffs. He has worked aggressively this off season and is vocal about making a huge impact and show everyone that last seasons playoffs were nothing more then a one time slump. Overall, the most skilled power forward in the game now, passing, rebounding, scoring, quickness, athleticism and all that is backed up by last years Sixth Man of the Year, Lamar Odom. Having taken that role very seriously, and actually starting over 50 percent of games played last season Odom became the first Lakers player to win the award. In the final year of his contract however, he is a going to be playing for a new contract and is going to look good until the trade deadline comes and goes in February.

CENTERS: B
Overview - After last years playoffs, Andrew Bynum was suspended the first five games of the season and will once again miss the start of the regular season. Also in a contract year, this is a make or break year for the young talented center, many who say is the only natural all around center left in the league with the retirement of Yao Ming and Shaquille O'Neal. The trade talks of Dwight Howard for Andrew Bynum will surround him all year long and if Bynum is hoping to put all negative vibes to rest nothing short but an all-star season is what he has to be on his mind. Having no legitimate backup, the Lakers and Bynum will count on Gasol at times and second year player, Derrick Caracter. The Lakers still posses the tallest front court in the league and still the youngest talented big man.

BENCH: B-
Overview - Last season many said the Lakers bench would've been able to break any other team's starting rotation, now it's time to put that into action. A healthy and steady bench is what Mike Brown and the Lakers need this year. Is a mid season trade to bolster the bench needed? Not really, but if it impacts the Lakers in a positive direction they will pull the plug.

COACH: B
Overview - Mike Brown has the dubious task of filling in the shoes left by an Icon, such as Mike Dunleavy had the dubious task of filling when Pat Riley left the Lakers. Dunleavy led the Lakers straight to the NBA Finals his first year, so anything is possible. Kobe however, is not LeBron and Mike Brown will not hover over Kobe and will allow him to do is own thing because this is Kobe's team. Even though Mike Brown is a Jim Buss hire, it's Jerry Buss's Kobe Bryant that has brought in titles and Dr. Buss might not run the day to day sayings, but the final decision comes from him, but if Brown and Kobe are able to mesh and meet halfway and the Lakers dominate and control the Western Conference again, it could very well be another championship parade at season's end.

The pre season power rankings have been handed out for the upcoming 2011-12 NBA season and as you can tell a lot of surprising teams amongst the top tier and middle of the pack. The Miami Heat enter this season at number one, despite losing to the Dallas Mavericks back in June for the NBA championship. Reigning MVP Derrick Rose and his Chicago Bulls follow up at number two and the veteran led Boston Celtics round up the top three spots. The champs, the Dallas Mavericks enter at number four followed by the team that they swept in the playoffs last year and stopped their bid for a three peat, the Los Angeles Lakers round out the top five to start the season. Rounding out the top ten is the Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets and the Orlando Magic. Opening night is just around the corner, we'll get started tomorrow with TNT and their double header as the Mavericks raise their first championship banner and take on Derrick Rose and the Bulls followed by Kevin Durant and the OKC Thunder going into battle against Kobe Bryant and the Mike Brown led Los Angeles Lakers.

Game Notes
Opening night here at STAPLES Center, for the 2011-12 NBA season as the Los Angeles Lakers host the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both of these teams coming off playoff eliminations at the hands of the new NBA Champion, Dallas Mavericks. For the Lakers, no more Phil Jackson, no more triangle offense that brought them five championships and seven NBA Finals appearances in Jackson's eleven years here. In his place, Mike Brown, who is a former Coach of the Year and in his last two years as the Cavaliers head coach led them to the best record in the league. Kobe Bryant, now 33 years old and battling several nagging injuries on a yearly basis will get to show the world if he is still the best in the game today. For the Oklahoma City Thunder this season looks to be a promising one. Expectations are very high for this young, athletic team who in just two years has gone from the eighth seed to a Western Conference contender, thanks in large part to the duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook and the great play of James Harden and Serge Ibaka. Scott Brooks, the NBA Coach of the Year two seasons ago looks to take this Thunder team deep into the playoffs this season with title hopes right on the horizon. No better way to measure where your at then going up against still the favorites of the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers. This year Andrew Bynum again begins the season on the sidelines, suspended the first five games of this seasonfor his hard foul in the last seasons playoffs against J.J. Barea. Enjoy the game and we'll see you at the conclusion with all the stats and breakdowns of opening night 2011 in the NBA.
