Fake Coaches?......or are they?

First of all, I don't know if they've been updated or not in roster update or something, though my gut feelings is that they haven't.
But I was going about hiring coaches in my franchise and noticed this: An available offensive minded coach named Chris Collins, who had a a career head coaching record of 1-15. Chris Collins = Cam Cameron? Does anyone remember MVP Baseball 2005? Johnny Snare = Justin Verlander, Ole Uttelstein = Cole Hamels, Wayne Collier = Prince Fielder, etc. Is EA doing the same thing with coaches they couldn't get in the game this year?
I can't remember if Collins was the OC for Baltimore or not, but I think he was and his contract was up.
So I did some investigating. There are several head coaches with actual records one had 26-22, which I could not find among the all time coach ranks, I saw one that could have been Jim Mora Jr. but it was an offensive minded head coach.
Has anyone else caught on to this? or looked into it further?

Josh Mcdaniels is the current offensive coordinator for the rams. His coaching record is 11-17. In the game they have Rod Wilson as oc of the rams with a coaching record of 11-17. I hired him as my head coach and its the generic old guy. It would have been nice if they had the coach models that they used last year.

What has me wondering is how is it within one year, a bunch of coaches go missing and aren't in the game. In Madden 11, guys like McDaniels, Cameron, Gregg Williams, were all in the game with their exact photo but now they are missing. Guess they had issue with being able to use their name and what not. Still find it odd how those coaches allow EA to use them in previous games but don't allow them anymore.

I guess they think all we want is real head coaches. This sucks. I was hoping to find Bill Cowher in there! Not that coaches mean anything this year anyways...

I had a great idea for coaches. They each have their old ratings for each position (QB,RB,WR, etc) and a teaching rating (along with a coaching scheme & playbook). It'd basically be like the old days, your Head Coach would mean the most, the offensive/defensive coordinator. Instead of true ratings, according to how your coaches are rated at each position would give you a rough estimate of how good the player is. The teaching rating speaks for itself, goodbye potential.

I just thought of that while talking to a friend, why can't EA!?

yeah something weird happened there. However, it would be really, really cool to get a list of the different coaches with fake names and link them up to the real guys!

I think that depending on what scheme you put a player in his ratings should be effected. Like, if you try to put a small pass rushing defensive end in a 3-4 scheme his ratings should take a dramatic hit. However, if you moved him to OLB then he should be allowed to keep his normal ratings (or only take a small hit because of coverage).

I definitely agree with this. I got Pierre-Paul in a trade with the Giants then thought what am I going to do with this guy in a 3-4!?! He went to a 70 overall OLBer when I tried to move him. I think he would be more valuable with that speed as a pass rushing OLBer in the 3-4. Very good point!

Re: Fake Coaches?......or are they?

I find it ridiculous that they don't have every single coach who has been in the league in the past several years. The only excuse is that there are problems with the coaches union - or the coaches not being part of the union like Belichick.

As far as what coaches should do...

Quote:
  • Coaching staffs should be expanded to include position coaches.
  • We should have the ability to hire, fire, and re-sign coaches throughout the season.CPU-controlled GMs should fire coaches under certain conditions.
    • Include set goals for each team and if they are not being met, the appropriate coach(es) should be fired.
  • Include a create-a-coach feature.
  • Coaches should have one offensive or defensive system that they prefer to use. An example might be a coach that prefers "West Coast Offense" or "Cover 2 Defense". Maybe have 4 or 5 difference systems each for offense and defense. The team will use the system of the head coach, and the system of one of the coordinators. For example if the head coach specializes in offense, then the team will use the defensive coordinator's system as well.
    • Each player would then have a list of all the different schemes (offensive schemes if they are an offensive player, defensive schemes for defensive players; kickers and punters would not be affected by this) in order of their preference/familiarity. If a player is on a team that uses their #1 choice of systems, they will receive a ratings boost and progress more quickly than other players. #2 choice would get less of a boost, and so on down the line. The player's last choice would actually cause a loss in ratings, and would slow progression down to a crawl. For each year that a player spends in a system, that system would move up at least one on their list of preferences.
  • Coaches should have certain player positions they specialize in coaching. Players at these positions would progress more quickly and easily than other players.
  • Coaches should have four ratings: Offense (OFF), Defense (DEF), Motivation (MOT), and OVR.
    • OFF would determine how much of an effect an Offensive Coordinator has on his favored positions' progression.
    • DEF would determine how much of an effect an Defensive Coordinator has on his favored positions' progression.
    • MOT determines how much of an effect the coach has on their players' Confidence level. OCs would affect offensive player's Confidence, DC's would affect defensive players's Confidence, etc.
    • OVR rating is based on a combination of the other three ratings. Determines how much of an effect a Head Coach has on the entire team's progression.
    • These ratings would progress based on the teams offensive (OFF), defensive (DEF), and overall (MOT) performance.
