WR running the wrong route

Sometimes when I go no huddle one of the outside receivers will randomly run a streak route. Is this done by design (because of low awareness, crowd noise, etc). I can't imagine it is considering I've seen it happen at home and with my best receiver.

I've seen WR running wrong routes due to the croud noise, usually they do a sign hovering their hands to their ear like they can't hear.

I've seen this from time to time (and it's pretty annoying). I run a no huddle offense, but I never thought that it might be related to that. It'd be interesting to see if it is.

Re: WR running the wrong route

I see this from time to time. Both at home and on the road so it isn't totally tied to the home field advantage, however, on the road is when you see it most. You can hot route (say a streak to a slant) and the WR will have his hands to his ears and move closer to the QB to try and "hear" and then go back. If you don't give him the signal again, he runs downfield pretty much aimlessly. I usually hot route him twice after that to make sure he hears it.

It is one of my many complaints about home field advantage. First of all, no team in football uses verbal signals to their wide receivers, especially on the road. It is always hand signals either from the QB or the sideline. Second of all, even IF they did use verbal signals, would taking a few steps in and putting hands to his ears really allow the WR to hear the QB? I can understand backs and tight ends or the offensive line doing it, because they all rely on verbal calls in protection, but that is it.

I really wish they would insert some form of presnap protection read where you have to identify the Mike, adjust protection for a blitz, etc. You can slide your line but they slide so far that the end on the opposite side usually walks right through.

As for WR's forgetting routes at home, I've seen it a few times, usually a WR will get bumped at the line and get so far off his route that he never makes it back on it. I have had slot WR's running mesh inexplicably held at the line and they end up 15 yards downfield before starting their route.

Re: WR running the wrong route

I seen this alot with my no huddle run and shoot offense. I notice it most often when I call around 7-10 plays in a row from no huddle. Now I limit myself to about five no huddle plays in a row. Another thing I've seen from the no huddle that is very annoying is that my o-line run blocks instead of pass blocking

I hate when i have a hitch called and the cb plays bump and run and the WR runs a streak instead.

Re: WR running the wrong route

it can also be tied into his awareness and route running rating

if he has avg awareness it effects him on the field especially on option routes...so there are several variables that could tie into a WR not running the correct route at times.

I rather get the streak on press unless I have like a corner route going over the top of the hitch
