Length of periods

Was just wondering what period length (and penalty time adjustment) works best for everyone, as I am looking for realistic shot totals.

I currently have my periods set at 8mins with my penalty time adjusted at 1 over 50%. Problem is that I am getting only about 25 shots per game on average. This isnt bad .. but I find my games need more scoring ... and figured the easiest way for this would be to increase play time a little.

Thanks!

Re: Length of periods

Yeah, you could increase the period time to get some more shots/goals/etc....

But you could also increase the game speed if you want to keep the overall start-to-finish time the same, while adding stats.

My current setup (if I remember correctly) is max game speed set to 8 min periods with min penalty time scaling (runs at same tempo as game clock). I know some people do not like max speed, but to me it feels closer to real hockey speed (considering the short time frame I play on).

I guess it all really depends on how long you want to play a complete game. After you figure that out, play around with game speed to find a nice balance between stats and playing time.

Re: Length of periods

I am really happy this year with the gameplay and for once found a good slider setting that is working well for me. The [u]only[u] thing bothering me right now is the time of periods. I want to make sure shot totals are good and not too low OR too high.

Re: Length of periods

I'm using 9 minute periods. And it's working pretty well for me.

The SOA are a tad low for me at 9 though. Averaging about 22-28 shots per team. So I might up the periods to 10.

I moved from 10 to 12 minute periods, but I have sliders set for not only slow game speed, but have reduced acceleration and increased fatigue with decreased fatigue recovery.

I love feel of the play, but I needed to increase the time to get to the neighborhood of 45 shots.

Re: Length of periods

I play on 7 min. periods with the game speed set at 1 and the penalty scaling set at 5. both teams get around 30 shot per game.

Re: Length of periods

10 min and pen scale 3... might lower it to 2 at some point. Depends how my PP and PK % will be after I changed to super star.
