Defensive strategy help

So i played my first online game of madden 12 last night and got lit up and defense. Aaron rodgers threw for 400+ yards with numerous touchdowns against my chiefs.

I basically only struggle with pass plays as my opponent struggled to run the ball. The strategy I was using was see how many wrs the offensive formation had, and call a play out of a formation based on that number (4-3 for 2 wr, nickel for 3, quarter for 4+).

What is wrong with my strategy? Have any playbooks/plays that work for you?

Your strategy is fine, but you need pressure. Try to overload one side.
