I've tried researching, and I also don't have any recent version of Madden.

I was wondering if I can play online franchise with only like 5 people only controlling 5 teams.

Do all 32 teams have to be controlled by humans? Or can some be human and some be CPU?

You can have an online franchise with less than 32 teams human controlled, there are no restrictions.
