NCAA Football: XBOX 360 vs. PS2

Just some background first... i work at a day-care at my local church and we have game systems for the kids to play on. I play from time to time but have not jumped in depth on the PS2 version of NCAA 11.. but there are some things i did notice...

When it comes to the PS2 version of NCAA 11, almost every little feature that goes complained about on these forums(dynamic crowd/stadium pulse, 1-AA schools, etc.). All of the features that most of us loved from NCAA 06 are still in the game as of 2011. As far as i know NCAA 12 wasn't made for PS2... Aside from the current-gen engine/gameplay and HD graphics NCAA 11 for the PS2 is everything i loved about 06 and updated!

Why is the 360 version so watered down on these PS2 features when they still put them into the ex-gen console versions anyway? It made me wonder what they are attempting to accomplish on the 360 version...

To me it looks like they want a college football game that looks great. Graphics, presentation... things they can sell to a very large college football audience... They could care less about gameplay... Average gamers don't care about the detailed things talked about on these forums for the most part...

EA is trying to sell this game to a huge audience... not die-hards who want the perfect version of simulation football..

Just my 2-cents... What do you guys think?

I think it's fairly obvious that the "casual" gamer makes up the biggest part of the gaming fanbase and that is who EA will cater to, while throwing a bone to the hardcore sim guys every once in a while.

Can't say I blame them either to be honest, it makes them a lot of money.

PS2 versions are 10x better than current versions. The core gameplay is intact (you can really feel the players weight and momentum) where as this generation they completely removed weight and momentum from players.

That in turn has caused the leaping lenny LBs, sliding into position CBs, and all of the rest of the strange gameplay bugs that are present now. Think about it, the players are weightless now. I've run over it many times before so I wont go on and on about it now, but yea, last gen is leaps and bounds more realism based then now.

I actually just completed one of my dynasty games a few minutes ago, and aside from the less than stellar graphics and lack of equipment options it played an awesome game of football. Its all in the physics.

Get this, (I'm currently playing Madden/NCAA11 PS2) on defense you can actually tweak the stick just slightly and actually WALK to a gradual back peddle. I didn't try it with the LBs but I did with the Safety positions. I'm into small details like that. The movement is precision and realistic, you can play the CB position and cover WRs realistically. Cant really do that now.

Its all in the physics. Last gen it was great. They completely removed it this gen and turned my favorite sports sim into straight arcade. I'm good with Madden/NCAA 11 PS2. If they could just redo them in HD I'd be happy.

Couldn't have said it better myself... too many times i get a head of steam with a bruiser of a halfback to only be stood up and run backwards by a 180 lb corner. He gets stuck in that strange running standing straight up in place animation...

and another thing i've noticed that NCAA 12 hyped up was the new catch animations.... didn't think about it till now but i haven't even seen them in game.. just a bunch of receivers that let a ball fly by right in front of them without realizing it is there...

You're absolutely right. Made me miss the days I owned a PS2. If it were me I would stick with the PS2 if it is just casual gaming. Let's face it, most of us on here are perfectionists and hardcore online gamers and we like everything to be perfect. But, the PS2 is better for the casual gamer who just wants to enjoy a nice football game.

Think you might have it backwards my friend. PS2 version is more realism based with weight and momentum accounted for. Good for sim game heads, not so much for casual players.

Casual/tourney crowd (focus group) are the folks who had EA remove the weight and momentum out of the game. Its more arcade based now days which is good for the casuals and very irritating for most of the sim heads who frequent this site.

Agree with stick with PS2 version if you want a decent more realistic game of football. It has its problems also but its closer to the real thing than what we have now.
