Player Speed

I was doing a little research on speed. I went to draft scouts website and looked at 12 teams to figure out who was the fastest on the team by 40 time. I then went into NCAA 12 to find the player and compare ratings.

NCAA rates goes as follows; 4.24-4.25=99, 4.26-4.27=98, 4.28-2.29=98…you get the idea (acceleration has no effect). So here are the comparisons with the original roster speed in black and the website equivalent speed in red.

Auburn: Onterio McCalebb, 91(92)
Oregon: Kenjon Barner, 92(92)
Florida: Jeff Demps, 99(98)
Michigan: Denard Robinson, 95(92)
USC: Nickell Robey, 91(90)
Ohio State: Corey Brown, 92(93)
WVU: Tavon Austin, 92(91)
Boise State: D.J. Harper, 92(89)
TCU: Skye Dawson, 93(93)
Texas: D.J. Monroe/Marquise Goodwin, 94/96(93)
Oklahoma: Aaron Colvin, 90(90)
Alabama: DeAndrew White, NA(90); Bradley Sylve, 92(89)

I think what I found is a lot are close but also these were the fastest according to the website and a lot of the teams had 4 or 5 guys faster than these guys on the original roster. If the original roster had these guys as the fastest it would drastically change team speed for a lot of the top teams.

1 thing for sure 2 for certain Lamar Miller is not the fastest Cane! That honor goes to Travis Benjamin who is faster then both Miller & DVD who blazed a 4.28 at the NFL Combine......My lil brother runs track for The U & says Benjamin is the fastest player who happened to break Santana Moss' 60-meter dash record with 6.70sec.

Re: Player Speed

You did look at some of the higher profile teams, with some of their best known "Fast" players.

But I think overall, the base game and edited roster are way over speed'ed.

This also includes recruits being over speeded, but this is basically due to progression being over done....because it almost seems like it is trying to make it equal the already over inflated base roster.....

5 years in and your looking at 100's of players basically running 4.26 times...were in reality there are maybe 3-4 of these guys per draft class.

I have been re-rating teams.....just the speed ratings, I am making them equal the players actual 40 times. I kept track of players rated over 90 before (4.42 time or lower).......and after editing 10 teams.....

Before Editing : 137 rated over 90 speed
After Editing: 47 rated over 90 speed

Speed ruins this games.... it is why people say players skate, warp, players have no weight etc.. etc.. (I have fixed all these things for myself!)

But I think most of these things are due to the speed scale !
It is way out of wack......it is arcade feeling, way too fast and frantic, but I guess this is what the majority wants !

I am just glad there is way to make it feel right to me...I just wish it was not so time consuming !
Both NCAA and Madden need to re-evaluate their ratings...the speed is everything theory, is killing these games IMO !

Re: Player Speed

yeah i think my thinking is somewhat the same. i'm looking at boise and there team speed should be lower than florida. it is for the most part but some of these guys are inflated to keep things fair maybe. or even how would the game play if the majority 4.5 CBs and WRs had that 85 speed. it would change the game. i think the game is very fun as is but a few changes would give it that madden feel and make the few speed players more coveted.

the only issue is actual 40 times, everyone has a story about someone running a 4.2 and there's usually no documentation to back any of it. that's where i think madden gets it correct because of combine times and actually being able to put that time to a real person and not a likeness as in ncaa.

I just documented every reason to why Benjamin is the fastest Cane.

Well actually it will be documented when they run at the combine....just you (or anyone) saying it, does not make it documented.

Last time they were timed by an impartial source, on a machine (not hand held stop watches, by coaches)....was when they were scouted for college...and those numbers were

Travis Benjamin 4.41
Lamar Miller 4.32

But either way, I dont think the OP was trying to say someone was not this fast or that fast....just saying the game uses the speed rating way out of proportion.

Re: Player Speed

I really dislike how speed progresses. It really should be somewhat of a flat rating, +- 1 or 2 over the course of the player's career. It would be awesome if they gained/lost weight and that had an effect on their speed as well.

Totally agree with you ! Speed should be just how you said !
....progress Acceleration if you must, that makes sense.

But it seems like almost every player goes up +1 Speed rating every year in Dynasty progression !
