How do you get points in online ranking to get ranked?

There is a ranking, and it has points next to it? How do you get specific point ammounts like two guys are 3-0, but one has more points and is ranked higher

one of them must have played a higher ranked player... which gives a person more points than if he beats someone of a lower rank
