Making Defense Against Jumpshots/Threes Matter In 2k12

I am a heavy shooter on the offensive side of the ball, whether its threes or midrange, i like to shoot. People I play often complain how they played good defense and still my shot went in. I respond by saying if you know a persons shot to PERFECTION (or at least close to it) it rarely matters how good the defense was unless it is blocked or sometimes height comes into play.

As much as I love making my opponent angry by draining a three in their face, I realize that this is very unrealistic gameplay and not true to the game of basketball. I shouldnt be able to master Ray Allens jumper and just stand still and pull up and drain a 3 back to back to back. The defender's efforts must come into play at some point.

It comes down to the argument of, should the shot go in less often or should the defense matter more. I for one think that if I am open and time the shot right it deserves to go in. However, if I time it right but the defender has timed his jump or put his hand in my face, it should definitely go in less often. This is not always the case in 2k11, play against guys with 'easy to master' shots like Ray Allen, Melo, etc and notice how your good defense is really unrewarding unless you block it or they time the shot wrong.

first wanna stay that same thing happens when you try to defend the computer on a post up turnaround fadeaway (like yao or kg). almost unguardable. thankfully sliders helped me limit the usage of shots like that. i remember when i first got the game players like diaw and j'oneal kept draining that shot in my face, even with perfeclty timed help defense, good shot blocking, etc.

i do think they need to work on the lack of jumpshot difficulty. putting more emphasis on the defense than having the shot go in less.

In a nutshell, if Player x has a midrange of 88 and he is fairly open and in his zone area he should knock it down, but if he is defended well to very well then he should miss more often maybe like his midrange fluctuate between 80 to 81..

download "the purist sliders" on 2k share. there's a thread on it in the sliders forum. pple made their own edits. cesco's edits are pretty good. big thread tho, you'll have dig a lot to find his edits. i'm still editing mine

i think the tendancies sliders was the reason for those fadeaway shots. he reduced those sliders and it plays a lot better

To me I don't really get mad at that sort of thing as this IS the NBA, where the best players in the world play. Fadeaway jumpers unguardable? They should be, that is what they are designed to be. In the NBA, with the defenders being as good and athletic as they are, a great shooter needs only a small window to get their shot up, because most of the time that is all they get. Just because you are in position to challenge a shot, does mean it will dramatically affect the outcome of the jumpshot.

i'm not talking about players like wade or lebron or dirk. or even players that have a top notch skill, like korver shooting 3s, or super atheltic dunkers. but when players like boris diaw score 30 pts from one or two moves, that he doesn't do in real life, it gets really annoying. i dont mind getting killed by post up fadeaways from zbo or dirk.

as you said the nba has the best basketball players in the world, so it has the best defenders. i should be able to defend these guys
