"Do or Die": Matt10's New Mexico State Aggies

Mission Impossible?
No question about it

Head Coach Dewayne Walker has instilled the theme for the year. But will anyone buy into it?

Las Cruces, NM -- Mission statements are the norm this time of year. Every head coach around the nation is trying to pump their players up to prepare for the upcoming season. Dewayne Walker is no different. Actually, the only difference Walker has compared to the other schools in the nation is that he is part of a program that is part of the longest bowl droughts in the history of the NCAA.

"This has been a tough start for my head coaching career," states Walker, who took the job two years ago, only amassing a total of 5 wins, "But the program is there for the taking. We must revamp our attitudes about New Mexico State football. Our other athletics have accomplished their goals - it's time for the gridiron that is football to quit mucking around in the abyss."

History has proved that the Aggies can perform, albeit nearly 40 years ago when led by Warren Woodson to a perfect season and a bowl victory over Utah State - which was in fact, to this date, their most recent appearance.

"You just have to start believing," says Walker, "If we don't come together as a program - and defeat our enemies, we're dying on the field. Winners are measured by results - and I'll be damned if I have anymore losing."

Statements such as Walker's have been heard since the elusive Woodson era, head coach after another has tasted a losing season, and with such high history of internal failure - the thought of a winning season is truly another statement of "mission impossible" - it's just a different year, right?

Good luck with the Aggies, with the Broncos out of the WAC your competition will be less in your quest for a WAC Championship, so maybe you can take over that role as the team from the WAC making noise in the National Title hunt in 5 or 6 years.

It will be a process of elimination with what hasn't worked. Even though Boise is out, it still leaves some stiff competition. The proposed (official) schedule doesn't seem to be a blow off either.

Just have to let things come, and let the results bring success over the course of the dynasty. I do like Walker's track record in coordinator form - so one can only start pulling for the guy.

Aggies get new TV look
NMSU Report - Weekly

Las Cruces, NM -- ESPNU will take over coverage for the 2012 through the 2014 season, according to proposed agreements between ESPNU representatives and athletic director, Mac Boston.

"It's time to put the Aggies back on the map," says Boston, "Too many times have slipped by where we could have had nationwide coverage - now we are pretty much guaranteed to have every game on a broadcast."

With the new agreement in place, ESPNU also brings along its well established statistics displays from the company (stats.com).

"Stats.com brings another level of full coverage that we intend to take advantage of," Boston continues, "As if ESPNU wasn't a credible enough name. These stats overlays will help establish some more solidarity throughout the broadcast."

In regards to the question of who will be commentators:

"That will be something we develop a little bit before the season officially begins. But we are looking at some former players as our main targets."

With the broadcast renovations, and the new sense of ownership for his team, head football coach Dewayne Walker can surely see the light at the end of the tunnel.

"It's the little things like focusing on TV broadcast that will help NMSU get back on the winning bandwagon. We have ownership now, there's no hiding. Everyone will see it, our future recruits, player's parents, NFL agents, NFL coaches - this is what it's all about."
