Gold Country - Reinventing the Gopher Name (NCAA 12)

Gold Country

Welcome to Gold Country, formerly known as "Gopher Nation." The Gophers, who have been in existed for a long time in College football were most relevant back in the 1930's-1960's. They claimed 6 national titles from 1934-1960. The program has toiled away in mediocrity for the last decade or so. They boasted some decent records under the Glen Mason era, he led the Gophers to a 64-57 record, but was known for letting the big game getting away or not being able to get to that big game. After Mason's firing, Tim Brewster was brought on and talked a big game, but he was able to bring in some nice recruits. The problem with Brewster was that he was never a coach before. He was fired during the 2010 season and finished with a dismal 25-37 record as a head coach. Jeff Horton took over for the last 5 games and went 2-3.

With a program that was in shambles, AD Joel Maturi hired Jerry Kill.

Kill was not a "sexy" hire as many had hoped, but he has said all the right things and is a down to earth type of coach. He's had success at all of his stops, and now he hopes to lead the Gophers back to where they need to be. He promotes a strong running game, and he likes to get his QB involved in the offense as a dual-threat type of QB. MarQueis Gray should fit the bill nicely as he has played WR the last couple of years, but he can fly and is working his hardest this offseason to come ready to play and improve upon the season that the Gophers had last year. The Gophers play in one of the most competitive leagues in college football today, but Coach Kill is excited for the challenge that lies ahead and is determined to make the Gophers competitive once again.

Career Record:

Specifics:
System: PS3
Sliders: Not determined yet
Rosters: Not determined yet

I might do some player CAPs later on, but I'm not sure how all that will work yet. I plan on trying to make this one better than the one I made last year. Any suggestions on what could be done better this year would be awesome.

I hate you guys for stealing our coach. He would be the guy to build up Minny though, good luck.

Yeah I have high hopes for him. I'm sorry to steal him, he's seemed to have success wherever he has gone.

Same, I'm excited to see how the Herd will fare this year. I'm excited about this year's game and the ratings. I'm still waiting for some real good rosters to come out before I start, but I'm a PS3 player so it should be soon.

The Gophers' roster is going to be a tough one to work with, not much help at QB or the running game, but the OL is pretty good. I'll have a tough time blowing out people, but I've found a decent set of sliders that should be good that will not only challenge me, but it will be tough with these ratings. I'm excited to get this started once I get some good rosters.

Thanks for the follows guys.

2011-2012 Minnesota Golden Gopher Preview

2011-2012 Golden Gopher Preview

The new football season is almost upon us, and we are here to help you gear up for the season! The Golden Gophers have lost quite a few players, but brought in a new coach and with a new coach, a new philosophy. Coach Jerry Kill has seemingly done and said all the right things. He has acknowledged that the Gophers speed and conditioning is way down compared to others in the Big Ten. He knows that it will be a challenge, but he is ready for it. Let's start off this little preview with an overview of the schedule:

Week 1: @
Week 2: vs.
Week 3: vs.
Week 4: @
Week 5: @
Week 6: @
Week 7: Bye
Week 8: vs. #16
Week 9: vs.
Week 10: @ #15
Week 11: vs. #11
Week 12: @
Week 13: vs.
Week 14: Conference Championship Week

We give the Gophers credit because they are playing many tough games, and by far the toughest game the Gophers will play in non-conference play will be Week 1 vs. USC. The conference schedule will be tough as always, but they do avoid Ohio State and play some of the weaker teams in the Big Ten. I could see the Gophers obtaining as many as 6 wins, but anything over 4 could be called a success if we see that the improvement is there. There's only so much you read into the schedule, the boys will have to play hard every game to win. No game is a given.

Coach Kill also released the players that will be getting the redshirt this year:

QB Max Shortell - FR (61)
WR Devin Tufts - FR (65)
WR Quentin Gardner - FR (61)
LT Kyle McAvoy - FR (67)
LG Luke McAvoy - FR (64)
RT Joe Bjorkland - FR (61)
RG Tommy Olson - FR (61)
LOLB Jephete Matilus - FR (60)
ROLB Quinn Bauducco - FR (63)

The real surprise here i seeing the McAvoy brothers being redshirted. It was thought that they can contribute, but it seems that Coach Kill is taking a more conservative approach than first assumed. We will see how it works out for him.

The Gophers will have a tough time this year as the group isn't extremely talented, but they boast a lot of weapons in the passing game. If Gray can be accurate, this team has a chance to do some damage.
