FIFA 11- trapping the ball/ first touch

Usually when say I kick a goal kick and the ball is in the air, it's me and someone on the opposite team lined up one in front of the other. I usually just hit X and try to go up and head the ball to a teammate. What I'm wondering is, is there a way to go up and chest trap or foot trap the ball down to yourself? I lose too many possessions because I headed a ball to the other team. Also, when the ball is in the air, is there a way to try and manuever around the opponent and try to get in better position if he's in front of me? If there is, could you tell me which buttons are used? (ps3) Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hold L2 and jockey with the left stick to gain better position.

If you want to try and trap the ball don’t press any face buttons, though I can’t promise you’ll meet with much success when the ball is high and an opponent is close. I’ve also used L2+R2 to free my player from the “rails” with success when it’s not a pure jump ball situation.

I usually try and push against the opposing player whether in front or behind me.

When they're in front, if timed correctly the ball will actually sail over everyone's head, and sometimes you can sprint on to it on the bounce.

When they're behind you, it opens up the space in front of you and often you can trap with the left trigger (not sure which button on PS3)
