The Legend of Keenan Marshall

Have you seen this man? Coming to a basketball jersey soon!
Player Profile:

Name: Keenan Marshall

Age: 21

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 207

College: Hawaii

Bio:
Keenan was born in the windy city. Though he never knew his father he had strong male role models in his life since his mother had boyfriends on and off throughout his youth. Each man taught him something important though he paid little respect to each of them which often resulted in arguments. Keenan would find his escape from these situations by going down to the park and playing some basketball. From a young age he displayed a “scrappy” style of play. He wasn’t the best at the game but what he lacked in skill he made up for in work ethic. His athleticism was never the issue, it was his lack of any knowledge of basketball that kept him back from being one of the best in his age group. He developed a nice but unorthodox shot at a young age.

At 14 years old the situation within his home grew worse. His mother, Shalyse, tried her best to diffuse the situations that presented themselves as Keenan and her main squeeze, Tyrone would bicker and fight constantly. Her attempts always seemed to fail. These failed attempts were more a testament to Keenan’s stubborn nature, he never gave up or quit on anything. It was a great strength for him but also one of his greatest weaknesses. On top of that, Keenan was not performing well in school, let alone showing up to school. He had no interest for school and found himself ditching to play basketball as a release from all of his problems at home. His schooling problem was the straw that broke the camels back. Immediately after hearing about this issue his mother called Keenan’s grandmother, Shanda. Shanda told her to send Keenan to Hawaii so she could whip him into shape. Slightly reluctant at first, Shalyse finally agreed that Shanda and good ‘ole Grandpa Joe would be able to help Keenan more than she can. Tyrone agreed quickly citing him being “too large of a problem for us to handle right now”. Keenan left for Hawaii a few weeks later taking nothing with him but a basketball and all the clothes he had.

Grandpa Joe was a military man, wanting nothing less than discipline and perfection. Shanda was your typical grandma, as sweet as candy but a rage that could make the most hardened man cry. Truth was, Shanda was the one that wore the pants in the relationship despite Grandpa Joe being so strict and demanding. Keenan was resistant at first threatening his grandparents he would run away or do something terrible. That is all they were, threats, nothing more, nothing less. He eventually broke down and lived by the rules set by Grandpa Joe, though the rules were enforced by Shanda more than Joe. Though Keenan hated living with his grandparents he learned some great lessons from them. He noticed how happy they were together, something that was sorely lacking in his previous life with his mother. He wanted that same joy in his life.

His only comfort while living at his grandparents home was still basketball though he showed little knowledge of the game itself. His grandmother noticed this and signed him up for the basketball team when he turned 15 years old. Keenan argued against such an act but was quickly shot down by his grandmother and her fury. Reluctantly, Keenan went to try outs and was surprised to find out that he made the team on his raw talent alone. The coaches knew he would be a project given his level of understanding of the game itself. They assigned one of the assistant coaches, James Wages, to teach him the game. James Wages was an underrated coach and was looking for an opportunity to show his prowess as a coach. His attitude about teaching some kid who knew nothing about basketball was less than excited. Little did he know how much he would enjoy working with him. Keenan showed great promise under the tutelage of this coach. He showed so much promise that they decided to allow him to play in the season opener coming off the bench.

In 5 minutes he was able to score 10 points. He knew little about team basketball so when he got the ball he shot or tried to score by driving to the hoop. Offense was the only thing he was taught. His opening performance was successful and he demonstrated how good he can be with continued coaching. Though his coaches did not play him very many minutes they decided it best for the team if he sat out considering he never passed the ball. Keenan was angry that he was put on the bench and put a towel over his head the rest of the game refusing to take any part in it.

Throughout his freshman year he continued to develop until he found his way into the starting lineup. Though he was still very much a raw talent his coaches played him because of his ability to score. Due to the successful one on one coaching by James Wages, they decided to allow him to continue coaching him personally for the rest of his high school career.

The remainder of his high school years passed by like a blur. He lead his team to a state title his senior year earning himself All-State awards and recognition. He met beautiful girls, had his heart broken, broke hearts but moved on. Through his recognition in high school he was offered a full ride scholarship to the University of Hawaii. He gladly accepted on one condition only, that James Wages his personal trainer/coach would go with him and receive wages for his work. His years at college, like high school also passed by like a blur. He performed poorly in school but passed only because of his status on campus. His attitude found him in the dean’s office more than once without his grandparents there to keep him in check.

He tried to keep in contact with his mother throughout this time due to the constant pestering of his Grandpa Joe who he viewed as a role model in his life despite his dislike towards him. The highlight of Keenan’s college career came when he stole the dean’s car and took it joy riding only to leave it in the Pacific ocean. After being caught the dean told him he was to be expelled. Keenan knew he was lying and found out he was bluffing when his coach called him and asked him why he wasn’t attending any of his classes. Keenan was the big man on campus and he loved every minute of it. That incident with the dean only solidified that point. He did what he wanted when he wanted with whoever he wanted. He dated many girls and talked a big game to his boys but deep down wanted something more, something meaningful. He wanted the same thing his grandparents had in their lives with each other. Given his maturity issues however, this would more than likely not be achieved any time soon unless events caused him to change.

His junior year in college is when the hype began. His senior year the hype grew but still remained relatively quiet around the country. People viewed him as “the diamond in the rough”, the sleeper pick of the century because he remained somewhat of a mystery leading up to the draft combine. Though he secured a spot at the combine he still remained unknown to most teams. If he were to find a place on a roster, the time would be at the combine.

Background: Well, I decided to jump back on the chise bandwagon. This chise is going to follow one player through his career. There will be a ton of story elements involved in this chise and I expect participation as well with CAPs. I would like to have some rivals in my stories so I want CAPs. I will be making no changes whatsoever to any roster, everything will be automated. The team I will primarily play as will be the team Keenan Marshall is on. I feel like I have perfected the draft class (almost). The issue with most chise in 2k11 is that too many stars come from every draft. I have perfected how to fix this so there will still be a balance in the NBA after the first year. I will be accepting CAPs shortly. Please do not make a post until I say so. Thanks!
