Detroit Tigers 2011 Spring Training Preview

It is that time again!

Break out the beer, hot dogs and warm weather at Joker Merchant Stadium, baseball season is back upon us!

As the Tigers enter the 2011 Spring Training season, the Tigers look to sport a nice polished roster for Opening Day.

However, any baseball fan knows that no player is safe in Spring Training. Everyone has to earn a spot and it is no different with the Tigers, especially with Manager Jim Leyland.

The 40 man roster is made up of crafty veterans such as Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen and Justin Verlander as well as the "the rooks" who are looking for a spot on Opening Day like Charlie Furbush and Cale Lorg.

The Tigers have a lot of kinks and questions to be answered this Spring.
Some of the more commonplace questions floating around are:
  • What will become of Joel Zumaya?
  • Will the additions of Victor Martinez and Joaquin Benoit push the Tigers over the edge, or the over the edge of major busts?
  • Who will be the Tiger's 5th starter?
  • Will the Tigers finally be able to have a successful margin in the W-L columns against their AL Central foes?
Expect the likes of Charlie Furbush, Cody Satterwhite, Adam Wilk and John Bale to see lots of innings for evaluation.

On the offensive side of the ball, it is time to put up or shut up for the likes of Don Kelly, Ramon Santiago and Will Rhymes.

Much to everyone's dismay, Patrick Leyland, the son of Manager Jim Leyland did not make the Spring Roster this year.

The Tigers are set to take the field tomorrow against the Cubs for the Spring Opener.

In case you missed it, here is the complete list of players who made the Spring Squad roster:
Pitchers:
Al Alburquerque
John Bale

Re: Tigersfan24's 2011 Detroit Tigers Franchise

BREAKING NEWS:

Tigers Release Manager Jim Leyland

Leyland amassed a win/loss record as head coach of the Tigers of 424 wins, 387 losses with one Pennant and one World Series appearance.

In addition, Tigers have announced John Schultzenr will be relieving Leyland of his duties effective immediately.

At this time, information on Leyland's release and Schultzenr's contract are not being discussed publicly by the Tigers.

This comes as shocking news to the baseball world as Spring Training is about to begin. The remaining Tiger Coaches remain the same. (See 2011 Detroit Tiger's coaching staff chart below)
