Post Defense

Ok, I played over 500 games and a player always owns me in the post. They will just pivot and shoot and I cannot stop it. What am I doing wrong?

I tried everything, I press Triangle (swat)... I use the right stick and triangle. They will make that shot EVERYTIME. What is the trick

Re: Post Defense

The post defense in the game is broken, the double team take 8 years to happen after you call for it and defending the hook or post up fade away is non existant..

Re: Post Defense

I think it went downhill once they lowered each player's jumping ability after the patch. Before, it was easier to contest shots in the post. Now, players aren't getting enough lift off of swat attempts to even threaten the shot.

That's not entirely true.

The hooks and fades can be defended consistently with good defenders. The post defense rating, and height(maybe defensive awareness too), are important.

It's basically just like 2k10, hold intense defense and press Y at the right time.

Sometimes the offensive player will get so much seperation and that's where the problem is. I guess that's the games way of saying the offensive player won the matchup but I don't like it and hope they take it out of next year's game.

For pivots you have to look at how effective the pivot is to decide how to defend it. If you stuff the pivot then all you have to do is hold intese D and you should stuff the move. If the offensive player's pivot overpowers you then the offensive player has the advantage and the best thing you can do is time the block.

For the rip(stepthrough) move you have to move your player in front of them while holding down intense D. You can try to block or just hold your ground.

For the regular up and under hold intense D and time your block, sometimes you can block it, other times you'll just defend it.

The other up and under(it's more of a scoop shot) is harder to defend than the other, sometimes your player will jump when you press block but most of the time he won't.

The faceup is the most broken aspect as far as it being defended. The offensive player always creates so much space when they faceup. Mostly because you can't move your player to shade a side or play tight or loose on the offensive player. It's basically a guessing game. When I play the computer I just immediately jump because 9/10 they are going to pull up for a jumper and the only way you can halfway defend it is by jumping ahead of time.

If they decide to drive I don't really care because they don't do it that much. But that is another of the many things that needs to be fixed in the gameplay next year.

The spin move can be defended just like the pivot.

Also, keep in mind that I do not play on any level above all-star. Playing on hall of fame or superstar will take the technique of playing D in this game and throw it out the window. Playing on default won't help either.

Re: Post Defense

I hate this thread.

Your problems can be solved in two steps.

1) Keep post threats away from the post.
2) Keep the entry pass out of the post.
3) Failing steps one and two, don't on-ball D, change player and bring help. But time it correctly.

Also, watch some NBA games. Garnett's real life turn around post jumper is stupidly good. As is Dirk's.
