My "Active Ratings" Idea

Madden should introduce something that effects players throughout their games and/or their career. Say if your QB gets hit hard and his shoulder aches (not really an injury but can lead to it if hit more frequently), it should effect his rating to some degree. We should see animations of him grabbing his shoulder or rotating it. This should only be severe to those with a lower toughness rating. If the player is constantly bothered in that area, it should exist through his career at least because in previous maddens it was like someone gets hurt and then heals. His injury history has no play in the future, which in reality it does so it should in the game.

Example: Chad Penington's shoulder, he was a great QB but that injury just messed him up and now his career is at a low point if not done.

EDIT: What if they had a damage diagram for every player, and a red mark would point out where pain is for that time.

What do you guys think about this possible addition to franchise mode?

Re: My "Active Ratings" Idea

I've been thinking about how nice it would be to have an injury system that tracks injuries to a player and shows the degradation of that limbs toughness.

If you have a rookie that tears his ACL in his first game, for the rest of his career that knee should not be the same as before the injury (Greg Oden to name a sports player or Kijana Carter for a football guy).

If you have an old guy who takes an ACL tear it should hurt his stats much more than the rookie. A guy who gets a concussion should be more susceptible to future concussions (Westbrook).

I liked the NFL Head Coach system better.

I've never played headcoach but I love what the main poster here is saying. FIFA does this pretty well. Guys get dinged during a game and if you leave them in sometimes they shake it off and sometimes it gets worse as the game progresses and you have no choice put to take him off. If it happens he had a serious injury and you left him on too long after it happened, he misses more time. If you take him off right away he might only miss a game or two or maybe even none. FIFA also has training injuries.

Injuries are such a huge part of the NFL that I really feel it should be more of a part of Madden. Almost every season it determines who sinks and who floats in the league. The Last four teams standing nearly every year are the teams that managed to stay the healthiest. (I know last years Packers are a big exception to that).

I just think gammers would get too pissy if you advanced a week to find out that Reggie Wayne strained a calf in practice and can't play. Expanding on that why aren't players listed as probable or questionable or doubtful more? You see tons of guys on everybody's injury list every week. If you had a player listed as doubtful or questionable and they couldn't go you wouldn't know till you started the game and you would have to adjust your roster just before kickoff.

What do you guys think of that?

PS - Love the idea of the animations if a player gets popped and then kind of works the injury out as he tries to play through it.

Yessir, you hit the button with this one. I was going to use Greg Oden in my post but you know I wanted to keep it all football. Thanks though great idea.

Awesome addition but the gamer shouldn't be upset that if Reggie gets hurt after simulation, it's reality. I'll actually like it because i love having to rebuild teams and what not. People dont stay healthy for ever you know?

I'm totally with you on this one. And the severity of it could be adjusted on a slider for those who say they want sim football but probably actually don't.
