Team Overview:
After trading their superstar small-forward Carmelo Anthony(28.2ppg last season) to avoid going without getting any compensation, the Denver Nuggets are still trying to find a new direction as an organization one thing remains constant that is George Karl at the helm. New 23 year old GM Rich Williamson who replaces Masai Ujiri who had to resign his new post due to health problems, states that the team is going to be kept together this year and that they will look to grow from there. Important members of the team look to be Wilson Chandler, J.R. Smith, and the UNC point guards Ray Felton and Ty Lawson.

Re: Denver Nuggets: Climbing to the top of the Association

Late October to November 2010
Denver Nuggets
Overall Record: 7-9
October-November Record: 7-9
Overall: 8
Power-Ranking: 21st
Conference Rank: T-10

Division Rank: 4

Chemistry: 45%

Game Recaps
Oct. 27th
The Denver Nugget’s home opener would prove to be a good one as they were able to get a 106-97 win over their rivals the Utah Jazz. They were able to open up the lead in the third quarter with a plus 13 quarter. The scoring for the team was spread out as there were 7 players in double figures ranging from 10 to 21 points. Wilson Chandler was the leading scorer with 21 points and K-Mart was able to put up a 16 point 10 rebound double-double. The Jazz’s leading scorer was Al Jefferson who contributed 18.
Oct. 29th
A close game that went down to the wire saw the Hornets prevail against the Nuggets 107-105. The star of the game was David West who had a game high 29 points and 8 rebounds. Chris Paul scored 13 and had 12 dimes for the hometown team. J.R. Smith led the Nuggets with 20 points.
Oct. 30th
The Nuggets were able to run away from the Rockets with a strong 40-27 fourth quarter and a 124-100 victory J.R. Smith led the team again with 38 points and 5 steals on the other side of the box score Kevin Martin put up 23 points.
Nov. 3rd
The Nugs used some good defense to beat a skilled Mavericks team 95-84. J.R. Smith for the third consecutive game had a team high 25 points and Wilson Chandler had a smooth 16 point 14 rebound game. JET was the leading scorer for Dallas with 23, Dirk was held to 18.
Nov. 5th
Once again J.R. Smith led the team in points with 23, this time however it wasn’t enough as the next scorer Ty Lawson only had 11. Blake Griffin put up 25 and 11 in a 101-87, Clipper victory.
Nov. 6th
J.R. Smith had 29 and Wilson Chandler had 28 points but it was not enough to overcome the Dallas Mavs this time around, Dallas cruised to victory off of a 44-20 fourth quarter eventually winning 128-109. Dirk put up big numbers with 36 and 9 and Jason Terry contributed 33 points in front of their home crowd.
Nov 8th
D-Rose dominated the game with a 30 point 12 assist night that helped the Bulls come back with a plus 20 fourth and win the game 106-102. No surprise here J.R. Smith was the leading scorer with 22 and Chandler dumped in 21 on a 13 rebound night.
Nov. 9th
The Nuggets were not able to win a single quarter while visiting the Pacers in Indiana. The final score was 101-83, Tyler Hansbrough and Roy Hibbert went for double-doubles with 23pt 11 reb and 19 pt 12 reb respectively. As usual J.R. Smith had his 22 points but no one else scored more than 14.
Nov 11th
The game was never close against the defending champs the L.A. Lakers who cruised to the W 107-70. A measly 12 points in the 2nd quarter didn’t help any. No Denver player was able to break 20 points, Ray Felton’s 5 assist 4 turnover night didn’t help any. Kobe showed why he is still up in the convo for best player in the game with a nice 27 point game.
Nov 15th
Former MVP Steve Nash showed why he once was able to claim that title with a dazzling 29 point 14 assist game and led the Suns to a 118-104 win over the visiting Nuggets. J.R. Smith’s 30 points wasn’t enough to help the visiting team overcome Nash’s performance.
Nov 16th
The Nuggets welcomed back former star Carmelo Anthony with boos from all over the arena throughout the game and sent him back to his new home New York with a 106-101 Denver victory. Carmelo’s 35 point performance reminded fans why they once loved him and the other end of New York’s dynamic duo Amare’ Stoudemire had a 26 point 14 board game. The Nuggets showed him why having two superstars isn’t always better than team ball with seven players in double figures and a 20 point team high from point guard Ty Lawson.
Nov 18th
The home team Trail Blazers clamped down on the visiting Nuggets allowing only 74 points in their 15 point victory 89-74. Both teams had two players score 14 points for the team high. Wesley Matthews, Lamarcus Aldrige, Ray Felton, and J.R. Smith all had 14. The Nuggets 19 turnovers proved to be the difference in the game.
Nov 20th
Denver lost again by way of the visiting Nets 102-95. Ty Lawson led the Nuggets with 21 points but Brook Lopez put up a 24/10 game while Deron Williams had a 23 point effort.
Nov 22nd
The Nuggets got back to winning in a 107-100 W over the Golden State Warriors, J.R. Smith showed up to this game with a big 30 points 15 from 3, Nene had a 20/14 game while the lead was never surrendered from the beginning to end. Seth Curry managed to have a 28 point 7 assist game.
Nov 26th
There was a shoot-out in Denver, and the Nuggets gimped away the loser in a 126-120 loss. D-Rose led the victorious Bulls with a career high 52 points on a 21-24 shooting night, Luol Deng contributed another 29. J.R. Smith also had a career night with a personal best 56 points, Wilson Chandler added 20 points in the loss.
Nov 28th
After a career night J.R. Smith couldn’t muster another high performance but, led the team with 18 and both Felton and Chandler turned in 16 point games in a 118-104 winning effort over the Suns in front of their home crowd. Nash had another big night against the Nuggets with 29/12 game and Vince Carter added 31 points albeit in a losing effort.

Team Analysis
J.R. Smith has been the key for the Nuggets on offense this season, he leads the team with 24.1 ppg but also has 3.4 turnovers a game. Rich Williamson ,the new 23 year old GM, after the recently hired Masai Ujiri was forced to resign due to health issues stated, “I love the way J.R. has been able to score points but to take his game to the next level, he’s going to have to cut down the turnovers.” On the trading of former superstar Carmelo Anthony by management before he was named GM Williamson had this to say, “I can’t lie we lost one of the best players in the NBA, I feel like we got some good pieces though with Ray, Wilson, and Danilo. Hopefully they continue to develop in their roles and we can get to the playoffs and keep building.”

League News for November:
LeBron James won 3 POTW awards for the Eastern conference while Stephen Jackson and Amar’e Stoudemire each won once. The Western Conference had a different winner each week, in order Kobe Bryant, Zach Randolph, Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki, and J.R. Smith. POTM went to Lebron James for the East he is currently averaging 27.8p/8.4r/6.2a while Dirk Nowitzki took home the award for the West with a 27.1p/8.4r month.
The only trade that has occurred so far this season was on 11/14 the Bucks sent PG Carlos Delfino to the Kings in exchange for Hassan Whiteside. The biggest injury news has been Monta Ellis being out with a broken ankle for 4-6 weeks, he was averaging 23.3 ppg and 6.0apg. Brandon Roy has apparently drawn strong interest around the league though it is doubtful that he will actually be traded this season.

Michael Beasley showed why he was the number 2 overall pick in the 2008 draft with a strong 32 point performance in a 108-101 W. Ray Felton had 20 points and 6 assists to lead Denver who had 6 scorers in double figures.

Team Analysis
J.R. Smith’s point production has fallen off as he has started to cool off shooting wise but the team posted a winning record for the month which had GM Williamson very happy, “Hey, I know it’s only 1 game above .500 for the month but it’s a small step in the right direction and we need that.” On Kenyon Martin’s replacement for injury, “A lot of people thought we’d go with Al but we wanted to give Danilo a chance to shine putting him at PF sure we give up size but he can stretch the defense with his shooting.”

Jan 1st
The bench led the way in the new year with 19 from Al Harrington and 17 from Arron Afflalo to a 116-98 victory over the Kings. A 20 point margin in the 2nd quarter sealed the deal for Denver who had 7 players in double digits points. Tyreke Evans game-high 26 points weren’t enough to boost the Kings to a win.
Jan 3rd
Kevin Martin and Luis Scola combined for 55 points but it wasn’t enough to win the game for Houston who lost 104-97 to host Denver. Ty Lawson had a strong game for Denver with 21 points, Wilson Chandler also helped out with 17 of his own.
Jan 5th
A pathetic 6 point first quarter doomed the Clippers from the start as no player scored above 15 points. They were blown out 103-76 at home by the Nuggets who were led by J.R. Smith’s 26 and Wilson Chandler’s 24 points which combined tied 3 of the Clippers quarters.
Jan 6th
This time around Tyreke had 34 and Marcus Thornton had 26 but it still wasn’t enough to overcome Denver in Sacramento who was led by Ty Lawson’s 31 points in a 102-95 win.
Jan 9th
The Chris Paul-less New Orleans Hornets fell to the Denver Nuggets by a tune of 122-105 J.R. Smith paced the Nuggets with 29 points and Danilo Gallinari added 22 in 26 minutes. David West had a double-double of 22/11 for the visitors.
Jan 11th

Jan 13th
Tied all the way until the end the Heat prevailed over the Nuggets 106-105. J.R. Smith had 27 in the loss as Denver had 6 players in double figure points. Wade(27), James(24), and Bosh’s(14) led the way for the Heat.

Baron Davis had 33 points for the Cavs however 19 turnovers for the team sealed their fate against Denver who won 117-103 with 6 players in double figures in points for the second game in a row.
Jan 16th
Manu’s 32 points led the Spurs to a 113-79 beat-down of the Nuggets, Tim Duncan added 19 points and 15 boards, while Parker had 18 and Jefferson 20. Wilson Chandler was the only Nugget to score above 15 with 20 of his own to go with 5 blocks.
Jan 19th
Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook combined for 78 points in a 124-107 W throw in newly acquired old Nugget Al Harrington’s 15 points and you have yourself an easy win. J.R. Smith led the Nuggets with 28 points but had 4 turnovers, no other Nugget scored more than 17.
Jan 21st
The Nuggets used a plus 13 4th to break the tie and win 107-94 against the LA Lakers who were led by Andrew Bynum’s 21 and followed by Kobe Bryant’s 20. Nene had 22, Smith 20, Wilson Chandler 19 and Kenyon Martin had 16/14 in the win over the defending champs.
Jan 23rd
The Nuggets avenged their early season loss to the Pacers 121-92. Tyler Hansbrough had 20 points in the loss. While J.R. Smith had 38 points, 18 from three, and Nene had a 30/15 game in the win.
Jan 25th

Jan 26th
J.R. Smith’s 27 led Denver 108-91 victory over Detroit. Wilson Chandler had 18/11. Rodney Stucky, Rip Hamilton, and Ben Gordon combined for 63 of Detroit’s 91 points. The only reason they lost was because of 23 turnovers most by the before mentioned players.
Jan 28th
A plus 12 fourth quarter propelled the Nuggets to a 3 point victory over the Cavs 83-80. The Nuggets scored only 46 points through the first three quarters. J.R. Smith had 23 in the win while Antawn Jamison had 21 in the loss.

Team Analysis
The new year saw Denver kick off a 5 game winning streak that was interrupted by 4 losses in 5 games but saw an even better run of 7 in a row. “We’re really meshing as a team everybody’s settled into their roles now, I especially like how Danilo’s points have increased since he’s gotten more time.” –Rich Williamson

Game Recaps
Feb 2nd
J.R. Smith’s 30 points weren’t enough as Denver fell to Portland 111-100. The Blazers won the T/O battle 23-6 which played a big part in their win. Aldridge had 21/10 game and the Blazers had 6 men in double figures.
Feb 4th
Jefferson and Millsap combined for 49 of the Jazz’s 100 points in a 100-94 W over the Nuggets. J.R. Smith put up 21 while no other player managed over 12 for Denver. Once again the Nuggets had 20 turnovers which killed any chance at a victory.
Feb 5th
Michael Beasley won the game scoring again with 33 but lost the game 121 to 108 in favor of Denver. For what feels like the hundredth time J.R. Smith led the scoring and there were six Nuggets in double figures.
Feb 7th
J.R. Smith 33 Kevin Martin 30 but the real difference was five next scorers on the team all were in favor of the Rockets for their 11-107 win away from home. Three of their players had double-doubles while the same can be said for the Nuggets.
Feb 9th
Monta Ellis went for 30 and Seth Curry had 21 but it wasn’t enough as the Nuggets came back and won by 3 after being down by 10 before the 4th quarter started. Danilo Gallinari had 27 points in 26 minutes to lead the Nuggets to the win.
Feb 10th
J.R. Smith added another highlight performance with 38 points 21 from three point range for a 112-97 victory over the Dallas Mavericks who were led in scoring by Dirk Nowitzki who managed 28/7.
Feb 14th
Zach Randolph and Rudy Gay went for double-doubles with 22/11 and 21/11 in their win over the Nuggets 108-100. O.J. Mayo also added 21 points to the total. Ty Lawson had 20 points and 7 assists in the loss.
Feb 15th
Kevin Martin 35 J.R. Smith 28 and that was the story as no player for the Nuggets exceeded 16 in a whooping in Houston 121-93. Terrence Williams was 21/13 and Patrick Patterson 14/13 for the Rockets.
Feb 17th
Brandon Jennings scored almost a third of the team’s points with 25 in a 106-79 loss at home to the Nuggets. J.R. Smith and Nene made sure of the win with 24 and 21 outings from the pair.
All Star Game
The West beat the East in a low scoring all star game 91-83 with Tony Parker getting MVP with 15 points. J.R. Smith the lone Nugget had 10 points.
Feb 22nd
J.R. Smith had 22 points and 10 boards to blow out the Grizzlies 106-80. Randolph was finally held to 15 points with only 8 boards.
Feb 24th
J.R. Smith again lighting it up for 46 while Wilson Chandler added 24/15 to beat the Celtics 133-115 in Denver. Pierce had 27 points in the loss.
Feb 25th
Brandon Roy’s 28 points led the Blazers to a 98-88 win over the visiting Nuggets. No player from Denver scored more than 19
Feb 28th
Joe Johnson(34), Josh Smith (18), and Jamal Crawford(18) combined for 70 points in a 95-91 win over the Nuggets. J.R. Smith managed to score 31 points in the loss.
Team Analysis
“We took a step back J.R. went up in points while the rest of the team didn’t help too much we need more consistent play out of Wilson he’s shown he can be a potential star and he needs to play like he is every night in order for us to stay in the race for the playoffs.”-Rich Williamson
