Make or Break: A Houston Astros Dynasty (MLB 2011)

Game: MLB The Show 2011
Team: Houston Astros
Season Length: 162 Games
Rosters: Official OS Minors
Difficulty/Sliders: Allstar/Default (with a few minor changes)
(also kind of copying the layout of Mr. Franchise's dynasty from a while ago, I hope thats ok.)

Following a dismal season in which the 'Stros found themselves near the cellar of the NL Central, not many changes were made to the team to help plan for the future. The roster is littered with aging veterans and unproven young players for the 2011 season.

In 2011, however, the team looks to make a magical run towards the post season, relying on the bats of Carlos Lee and Hunter Pence, and the arms of Wandy Rodriguez, and Brett Myers.

If things don't go the Astros way by the time the trading deadline rolls around, look for them to ship away top performers for young prospects as they turn to the future.

Re: Make or Break: A Houston Astros Dynasty (MLB 2011)

Spring baseball is over; let the games begin

The Astros and their fans come into the season not knowing what to expect. The front office made few moves to try and reshape a team that went 76-86 in 2010. On paper, the team seems to have strong starting pitching, an offense with young studs, and veteran sluggers, and a very young, inexperienced bullpen.

If Hunter Pence can continue his strong hitting from the past few years, the offense can lean on him to help produce. It is also up to Brett Wallace and Chris Johnson to prove that they are ready to compete on the big league level consistently.

The starting rotation has two rocks at the front end of the rotation, with Wandy and Brett, followed by two young guns, Happ and Norris, who look to put together big years for the team, then finally journeyman Nelson Figueroa looks to produce well in the 5th spot of the rotation.

The bullpen is full of young players who have yet to prove they are ready for the major league level. Many have little to no experience apart from Brandon Lyon and Arias, but hopefully they can compete and help keep their team in ball games.

And tomorrow, the games finally begin as Wandy Rodriguez takes on the reigning NL Cy Young winner, Roy Halladay, in Philadelphia.

Astro's bats light up Halladay, Phillies

Clint Barmes and Bill Hall congratulate each other after the victory

Philadelphia, PA- The Astro's were clicking on all cylinders as they topped the Phillies on opening day 6-1. Wandy Rodriguez had ace material on the mound as he went the entire distance, scattering 11 hits over the 9 innings, giving up only 1 run. He also got 2 clutch double plays during the game when there were runners on base. Although he only had 2 strikeouts, he got many easy outs for his fielders to make.

The offense combined for 9 hits and jumped all over 2010 Cy Young winner Roy Halladay, including two homeruns from Carlos Lee and Brett Wallace, and tallied 6 runs off of the Phillies ace. Halladay only lasted 4 and 2/3 innings, notching 4 strikeouts.

Pinch hitter Ross Gload had the lone RBI for the Phillies while pinch hitting in the 5th inning.

Wallace was also only a double away from completing the cycle.

Tomorrows game faces off new Phillies acquisition Cliff Lee versus Brett Myers whose coming off a great 2010 season.

Re: Make or Break: A Houston Astros Dynasty (MLB 2011)

Myers stifles Phillies

Myers gets Howard swinging, one of 6 strikeouts for him

Philadelphia-Brett Myers had all of his pitches working for him as he went 7 strong innings, notching 6 strikeouts, not surrendering a walk, and not allowing a run to score. He was backed by a 4th inning Hunter Pence homer off of Phillies starter Cliff Lee.

Cliff Lee also pitched well for the Phillies, as he allowed only the 2 runs, but had very little offensive support.

Things almost unraveled for the 'Stros in the ninth inning. Closer Brandon Lyon came in and immediately gave up a homerun to Ryan Howard on the first pitch. The very next pitch was hit for a double by Raul Ibanez, putting a man on second with no one out. But Lyon showed his poise and got the next 3 outs in a row to shut the door.

Tomorrows game features former Astro, Roy Oswalt, facing off against former Phillie JA Happ.
