Whats the key to hitting HRs in RTTS

Im a 3B in my third season, now with the Pawtucket Red Sox. My career high for home runs is 12(last season), and im a 3B, a position that generally expects some good power numbers.

So im wondering if there is any secrets, tips, etc. to help me hit more home runs?

Anything as simple as increasing power attributes, pulling the ball, using the power swing?

Re: Whats the key to hitting HRs in RTTS

What style of hitting are you using. If Zone, a big tip is to keep the PCI low. If the pitch is down the middle, tilt the stick down very slightly. If the pitch is up, keep the stick in the middle, etc... You might hurt your BA but will definitely hit more home runs, as you will get under the ball when you swing.

For Analog and Timing, you don't really have much control over the PCI, so your best bet is to try to pull the ball, by swinging slightly early. I'd also recommend you stay away from power swings and guess pitch, but I don't use these hitting styles much so maybe I'm wrong.

I use Analog only, and it's a matter of raising your power attribute, and making solid contact. You don't have to use the power swing, if you do, realize that it makes contact harder (makes PCI smaller), but if you are already good at making solid contact, it will make the ball go further.

My right-handed 3B has hit 3 or 4 HRs so far (into July 2011), and two of those were pulled into LF corner, one was a no-doubter to left-center, and I hit one to right center (guy jumped for it, but really had no shot at it). The no-doubter was hit with a power swing - 2-0 count, guessed low inside fastball, was correct, and nailed it - all of the others were with normal swing. I use power swing sparingly, and only when in favorable counts, where I can guess fastball and sit on a given location.

Knowing that i was struggling in the power department, I was looking forward to having my home ballpark be Fenway.

Well that cant happen now because i was just traded to the Brewers!!!

This came out of no where. Myself and two other prospects went to the Brewers for 3B Casey Mcgehee

Point rating-wise, it'd be good to work on power, clutch, and plate vision.

However, in the game if you're using zone hitting, it's important to get as much of the upper half of the PCI on the ball. Also swinging at belt-high mistakes helps out a ton. In this year's game I haven't had much luck hitting home runs (5 my first season in 170 at-bats, 12 the next season in AA and AAA in 290 at-bats, 9 in AAA and MLB in 180 at-bats, and so far 3 in 140 at-bats in my first full season in the big leagues). I think the solid hits slider also helps out. Now I use guess pitch a lot and I also guess low and Fastball, but it does harm me on high pitches.

Patience, I had issues with it when I started playing. However, waiting on the right pitch does wonders for you if your strength and contact are good enough. This year they really did put a lot into the contact, so once in awhile even if you guess the pitch and location right you still won't get much contact on the ball...But eventually the pitcher will lay one in there especially if the count is in your favor.

I've managed to hit quite a few homers on 2-0 counts, I never swing on 3-0 counts and hardly swing on 3-1 counts. Once in awhile you guess it perfectly early in the count and can capitalize, however the pitcher has a tendency to throw off-speed stuff a lot when they know you are a power hitter (although I believe this is mainly based on the statistics of said player for the season).

WOW!!! I mentioned earlier that I was traded from the Red Sox to the Brewers, well guess what the Red Sox beat the Brewers in the World Series.

@ProdicalSon44

Ya I've learned that getting ahead 2-0,3-0 etc. REALLY helps, cuz then you can sit on one pitch, mine is a mid to low fastball.

i finished the year a .303 AVG(.285 last year), 13 HR(12 last year), 68 RBI(49 last year)

Overall I was happy with the season, but it still wasnt good enough to net myself a job in the Majors which really sucks cuz im getting really tired of the minors. just need to improve on fielding, thinking about moving to RF
