iPad as a second screen for Madden and sports games?

I'm wonder if there is a market or technology for this. Would it even be useful? I could imagine using the iPad to select plays. This could be useful for live head-to-head games. Or how about in-game stats syncing to your iPad? That way you don't have to pause the game to view the stats. You could just view it live on your iPad while the play clock is running.

In baseball, you could use the iPad as a secondary screen to view your batting order and their stats. Or you can use it to view pitching charts or how the pitcher's pitch selections against you in the previous at bat. Maybe you can make substitutions or warm up the pitcher using the iPad.

Maybe after making spectacular catch in Madden, you could save the screenshot and send it to the iPad as a photo album.

Or how about using the iPad to design football plays and then sync the plays into Madden?

An emphatic "Yes" to all your ideas

The one problem I see is that I'm not sure how much support for the iOS devices MS and PS3 are willing to dole out. I'm sure MS would much rather EA code something that works with an app exclusive to Windows 7 phones, or something, whereas Sony would probably want support for a PSP or NGP or something.

Holy cow, Levin you sir are a genius! That's some great ideas and hopefully EA would do well to incorporate them in Madden 13!!

My thoughts exactly, though I would love to see them integrate a thing like the iPad.

With so many different tablet manufacturers, you figure there's going to be a marriage between console gaming and tablets one of these days especially if Sony or Microsoft plan to enter the tablet market.

I could imagine using a tablet as a second screen for selecting plays while doing a hurry-up or no-huddle offense. Or what if I wanted to use a tablet to script the first 15 plays of my opening drive.

Or how about using the tablet to make substitutions? Making substitutions in Madden has always been an endeavor for me. In older Maddens, you would have to pause the game to make a substitution or use preset formations. In the new Maddens, you could make substitutions "on-the-fly" as so to speak. But I could imagine using the tablet to send in the jumbo package.

Imagine it is 2nd and goal with 8 yards to go. You throw a screen pass that gets you down to the one. You can send in the jumbo package and select a dive play with the tablet. This frees up the TV screen to show the replay of the previous swing pass or show cut scenes. By selecting plays with the tablet you can free up the TV screen to show other things.

Sony NGP?

Iphone support will come before Ipad support.

Stuff like this was already done over 10 years ago with the Dreamcast and the VMU. Not one thing new or revolutionary about the idea.

Comparing the VMU with a large touchscreen display is a bit of a long shot, but I do remember the VMU and how it was integrated in some games - not particularly useful though.

On a side-note. The rumored new powerful Nintendo console will, according to some of the rumors, include a new type of controller with a HD/touchscreen display. Maybe Nintendo is the future for Madden?
