Sliding, cannot get it to nail the catcher

I have sliding turned on to assist, and the only other option is auto. When I have had it on auto before, I have seen runners take out the catcher (some safe and some still out).

I would rather do this myself, but the control instructions say to pull down on the right stick to barrel into the catcher. I CANNOT get it to work. I have tried pulling it down and holding it, pulling it down right at the impact then release, pull it down before impact then release, I even held it down once as the guy was just past 3rd, yet I have never had one work.

I can't seem to get any slides to work with assist. Does anyone know what the exact formula is to do it? Right now, I've gone back to AUTO, but would prefer to do it myself if that is possible. So far, even on ASSIST it still acts as 'auto' as far as I can tell.

I'm actually wondering this, too. I tried moving the stick all over but couldn't get the runner to barrel into the catcher. Might have to try auto...kind of nervous to do so- does the CPU have smart AI when it comes to sliding in your experience?

Isn't there a button for this? Down on the D-Pad, maybe?

Could one of you check the in-game menu? I can't remember off hand.

1. Running in to the catcher is only possible when the catcher is "in his position with the ball" per in-game strategy guide. So if it is a "bang-bang" play at the plate (like most plays are, ie. both the ball and the runner arrive about the same time to home plate) you obviously would not be able to "run in to the catcher".

2. I always select my runner first (by pushing the left stick to the left/runner icon blinks) and when near home plate, right stick down to cause the collision, when applicable.

This feature has been in the game for a few years now.

I have found the AUTO setting to have decent sliding ability, sometimes they could easily hook-slide to be safe but go head-first into bases, that type of thing, but more often than not it is pretty good. That is the only way I have seen the "knock-over catcher" done, I have yet to EVER make it work with manual (or, assist, as it is called).

I too, pick my runner, pull down on the right-stick as he is getting near the plate (actually, I've tried just about everything), and yes, even when catcher is standing there WITH the ball blocking, I have yet to successfully get my runner to NOT slide, but ram the catcher instead. I would say I am probably between 10-15 game situations where this has been applicable, but unless I have "AUTO" sliding, he will not take out the catcher.

I have done it 2 times, holding down on the right stick. In general I find it easier to have the game do my slides if I start holding the right stick as early as possible, if you wait too long the assist kicks in and it doesn't necessarily do what you want.
