Anyone else really annoyed by strike zone?

It really bothers me

1 - Its too high, if youve watched a game nothing gets called more than a little above the belt.

2 - This is one really irks me, in real life you get basically a ball extra on each edge but in the game you have to have the majority of the ball go through the zone...so if you only clip the zone its a ball....and just in case you're wondering ive tried it with the umpires zones being "perfect" and thats still the case.

Okay, I have to join Skip Carey here! The strike zone should be what it is in the rulebook, which states the top as a midpoint between the top of the shoulders and the belt (or top of the pants).

This does work if you LITERALLY just copy and paste it in the address bar, I don't know why this site keeps changing it and causing the 'dead link' to happen. Sorry.
(here is the site for cut and paste, the link above keeps changing it to a dead link, and I don't know why, but I had to split it so it would stop TURNING INTO a link, and then changing the last part to make it dead)

The STRIKE ZONE is that area over home plate the upper limit of which is a horizontal line at the midpoint between the top of the shoulders and the top of the uniform pants, and the lower level is a line at the hollow beneath the knee cap. The Strike Zone shall be determined from the batter's stance as the batter is prepared to swing at a pitched ball.

That fact that real life umps quit calling anything above the belt should not matter. They are strikes. I wish that MLB The Show actually went a little higher, as they seem to cut it off a less than half-way up.

It should be what it is, not what the (money-driven) modern game has made it.

Re: Anyone else really annoyed by strike zone?

It was higher in the past, people complained, so they took a happy medium and split the middle this year it appears.

The strike zone is fine. I see plenty of "high strike" umpires out there in real life.

Re: Anyone else really annoyed by strike zone?

I'm also pretty sure that it states in the rule book, that the strike zone is allowed to be interpreted by an umpire, however he chooses.

I'm 99% on that. Or at least 99% that umpires are given the power, by rule, to implement a discretionary strike zone.

It doesn't help the discussion much, as I'd like to see it lowered in the video game myself, but figured I'd share that.

Re: Anyone else really annoyed by strike zone?

I do not think they do have any rules stating that an Umpire can interpret the strike zone (or change it). It has just evolved that way over thousands and thousands of games.
=======================================
9.02
(a) Any umpire’s decision which involves judgment, such as, but not limited to,
whether a batted ball is fair or foul, whether a pitch is a strike or a ball, or whether a
runner is safe or out, is final. No player, manager, coach or substitute shall object to
any such judgment decisions.

========================================
It does say this about strikes, but it never says that they have the ability/right to change what the strike zone is, which is clearly defined as what is stated a few posts above. Umpires change it on their own, but no rule says they have the right to do so.

The quotes from above are from the Official 2011 MLB Rulebook.

Re: Anyone else really annoyed by strike zone?

if they had the strike zone of the show in real life for the corners, walks would go up considerably
