I love this game but jeesh I STINK at it!

I don't think there has ever been any game that has been as great or I've loved as much but I've stunk at as The Show. This year is no different than past games. I play the cpu and for a few innings it's all good, then the shellacking comes and they get a huge inning. Then as always I'm left swinging at nothing and getting crushed. I've put my hitting at rookie and contact but I still have a hard time putting up runs on the board (sad I know..LOL)

Anyone got any tips for an old man who loves the game but is simply terrible at it??

I agree ODogg. I just suck at hitting. I am using the analog hitting and o can't get the feel for it. I am horrible at timing and horrible at swinging at pitches outside the strike zone. Hope someone can throw us some tips.

I would suggest lowering pitch speed to atleast 4 or even 3 and change the camera angle. Lowering pitch speed and camera angle, gives me more time to judge the pitch. I find catcher cam 9 to work the best. Also, ive lowered my difficulty for hitting one level lower than last year. Im now using veteran with zone hitting and have had better luck in terms of hitting. Im 14-13 with the Rockies in spring training so far.

Re: I love this game but jeesh I STINK at it!

i think the question really is where do you think you need to improve? ive been there, so i know what you guys are going through. however you start to catch onto tendencies, then you will have that "ah ha" moment.

what did it for me was to really start thinking baseball. sometimes its so simple we forget the most obvious stuff. like how does the pitcher pitch to your lineup? obviously he will pitch away and most likely walk your power guys, so be patient when they are at bat. your bottom of the lineup guys will see more strikes early into the count, so look for a location you can handle and wait till he throws there.

when you are pitching think about their lineup and how they expect you to pitch to them. walking is not the end of the world, its much better to give up a walk then to give them something they can hit. so dont give in if you aiming for the black and put something over the plate because you are in a 3 ball count.

think about those "bottom of the 9th" situations you used to come up when you were a kid. you have to think your way through them, same thing when you are playing this game. i think you will find that you will get "lucky" when you put yourself into a position to be lucky.

Re: I love this game but jeesh I STINK at it!

Practice mode is very helpful for Analog hitting and throwing.

Dropping the difficulty is a good start. If pitches are coming in too quickly for you, drop pitch speed 2-3 clicks. I'd also maybe look at dropping CPU Strike Frequency a click or two. This will help you see more balls outside the zone, and should help your timing.

Try one of the new camera angles. I'm a big fan of Catcher 4, and I've also created a Custom camera based off Wide Offset that provides a modified 2K11 view and I think really works well with Analog hitting.

Re: I love this game but jeesh I STINK at it!

Ok I know I asked this before, but when using analog batting, it does not seem to let me select power or contact swing...when the icons pop up for square or circle I press one but nothing happens.
