Depth Vs. Starpower

Hey all, I've been logging some serious hours on NHL 11 lately, and I have been playing around with different teams, modes, and of course my sliders.

But what I wanted to talk about today and get everyone's opinion on is if you value depth over starpower or vice versa.

What I mean by this is would you rather have 3 lines of players rated 75-85, or would you rather 1 line of 85+ with one superstar (90+) and the rest of your players 80 or under.

For me personally, I have found that playing with a deep team is better for me, I like always being able to switch up my offensive scheme, and attack effectively with all my lines. I don't like to feel like any of my lines are "garbage" or a liability on the ice. I find it also helps to deal with fatigue and keeps your best players from getting injured because you are splitting ice time fairly evenly.

So which do you prefer, depth or starpower?

Depth so I can attack with all of my lines. I recently started playing with Boston in a Be a GM and they have good depth on all lines and I've started out 11-3 with balanced scoring from all lines.

Re: Depth Vs. Starpower

^ Nice, I play as boston as well and they have a very good set of forwards, in fact, I find that I have a surplus of talent and players like Marchand, Thornton, Paille, etc. have to rotate in and out. But I'm not complaining, I love it.

I'm thinking if you play as pittsburgh, and trade away some picks and prospects and pick up some wingers, that is a team with depth and great talent as well.

I agree Bpete07.

I'd rather have 3 to 4 solid lines...than just one Superstar line to depend on.

Depth for sure.
That's one thing i do like about the Blues. They seem to be pretty solid when it comes to being able to have at least one guy with scoring on each line. (And thanks to the odd ratings, Cam Janseen is an 81, and scores goals pretty well...if only)

Why not try Vancouver instead, no need to make any trades.
Nice mix of star players & has great depth IMO.
I'm obviously a homer, but I find it really hard not to pick VAN.
I'll do fantasy draft with VAN, if I need to mix it up/more challenging.
I might try Boston, I try to trade for Lucic but his price is always too high.

Most of the "tough guys" are overrated this year!!!
It's one of my biggest gripes, having to edit all of them.
I have a list(pros/NHL only) if anyone is interested.
I hated having Andrew Peters rated 77 & not making it on my team, & then find out he's playing on the 1st line on my AHL team.
I like to get my prospects those minutes to make sure they progress.

I certainly prefer depth over star power as well. It just feels nice to know that you don't have any lines that are lacking in the skill department.
