In defense of my FNC purchase.

I have seen alot of posts expressing regret for purchasing FNC. I feel your pain. After a week of solid playing, FNC is back in it's case and I am back to playing NBA 2K11. If only all games could live up to NBA 2K11. I have played it nearly everyday since it's release. Having played it for at least a thousand hours the game has provided me with hours of entertainment at a price of only a few cents per hour. I would literally pay 500.00 bucks for that game.

I must admit my hatred for EA. I think generally speaking, they make crappy games and I have been extremely bitter towards the company ever since they bought the NFL license. I try to avoid their games. However, being a sucker for boxing I got FNC. By my estimation I have spent 3 hours completing champion mode, which I think was poorly done. Most fights seemed totally scripted. I really never felt like I was boxing so much as I felt like I was simply playing out a scenario. I have also fought 36 fights in legacy mode and have enjoyed it- though I'm at the point where I'm the undisputed champ and I don't forsee an able challenger on the horizon. I have also fought 10 or so exhibition fights. All in all I figure I have played FNC for atleast 30 hours and will pull it off the shelf from time to time whenever I feel like boxing.

At this rate, FNC has provided me with entertainment at 2$ an hour, much cheaper than any arcade, and I suspect I will get at least another 30 hours of entertainmnet in the next 2 years, when I sporadically pull it off the shelf when I'm in the mood and before the next Fight Night is released. Basically I will end up paying one dollar per hour for the entertainment FNC provideds. That is pretty good. What other medium provideds that low of a cost per hour?

I like the gameplay in FNC and if the sliders are fixed it could actually be a decent game that would merit even more hours of play. Still, just judging the game and situation as it stands, I think we can get our moneys worth out of the game and maybe most importantly we keep alive the only boxing title going. For years I waited for 2K to release a boxing game and when they did it was terrible (Prizefighter). I would like to think that my purchase of FNC will keep the boxing genre alive and may even lead to a game that equals NBA 2K11 in it's replayability but if not, atleast one company will continue to put out a boxing game. If they can duplicate the marginal improvements made in FNC ( Vs. FNR4) maybe that is all that matters....

Re: In defense of my FNC purchase.

typically I agree with your stance. dollar for dollar the value is not regrettable. however EA ripped me off in my expectations. Meaning, that to pull online sliders out at "the last minute" is b.s.

I primarily bought the game because I KNEW the online sliders would work in the online gym. I also bought the game with the espectation that the sliders would AT LEAST work as well as implemented in the previous title. With the notion that at the least there would be patches/tuners towards the community perspective. They have thrown me under the bus and lost a customer for any of games going foward.

Im glad you have rationalized your decision tho. lol.

Re: In defense of my FNC purchase.

I completely agree with you. NBA 2k11 is amazing. And it still has a ridiculous amount of potential. (better online, better team up, deeper league play)

I would pay $100 for 2k11 because I know I would get my money's worth like you said.

But I Feel like with Fight Night I have completely threw away money. The online is terrible. The gameplay is so cheesy & arcady that I can't even lose a match without feeling like I was cheated. I was expecting much deeper game play that forces boxers to fight smart instead of throwing 900 haymakers a fight. IDK why I expected much from EA anyways, but I most definitely learned my lesson. It's 2011, with today's technology Sports games should be as close to simulation as possible & not arcade style.

I am currently selling my copy on craigs list so I can purchase COD Black Ops. I feel I will get a bigger bang for my buck with that because I'll actually play it instead of paying $60 for Fight Night & it collects dust.

Re: In defense of my FNC purchase.

EA lied to us about online sliders. And offline sliders dont work. Then to top it all off EA is not going to patch or fix sliders online or offline. There are a few other slip ups, mishaps or just bone headed design decisions or whatever you want to call em on EAs behalf that I wont even bother mentioning.

There is no reason to defend this game man. If it was any other company that blatantly lied and then told you they were not going to try to fix or adjust things in the game that they themselves admit dont work. We would nail them to the cross. So why not EA or FNC? They bandaid most games most of the time but for the only boxing game we have there is no bandaid no tweaks to sliders huh?

This is another example of so close but so far. Just a few simple tweaks to the game would have made it really good. But because of the lack of these simple tweaks and bandaids. Its a flash KOed average bum of a game.

(Flash knockouts by guys that throw 150 right hooks in 2 rounds nonsense)

Re: In defense of my FNC purchase.

I can defend almost5 any game purchase with your logic.

A relatively cheap dinner for me and the wife is at least $60. A round of Golf is $60. A bender at the bar followed by a pounding headache is $60. All of which I could say that if any game gives me 5 to 10 hors of entetainment, its on par with other recreation.

But we're not comparing it to other recreation, we are comparing it to other games. I look at The Show, The Total War Series, NBA 2K11, Dragon Age, etc and then look at this game and shake my head. With just a few tweaks and some attention to detail, this game could have been very good, but compared to the other games mentoned, its Bush League.
