Icon1 Blazzen's MLB 2K11 Slider's

This is my slider thread for MLB 2K11.

This post will be kept up to date with the most recent set of sliders I'm using. Further explanation will be ongoing in later posts in this thread.

BIG THANKS to BIGFNJOE96, this set was based on his and then tweaked to my personal preference.

Also want to thank NLD230 for providing average game data from last year that will help tweak our sliders to achieve realistic results. That information is posted below so it is all in one place.

REAL MLB 2010 AVG. Stats PER TEAM, PER GAME:
Stat - Average - Top 5 - Bottom 5
HR - 0.95 - 1.28 - 0.69
2B - 1.75 - 1.99 - 1.52
BB - 3.25 - 3.32 - 2.75
K - 7.00 - 5.93 - 8.28
H - 8.75 - 9.46 - 8.16
R - 4.38 - 5.01 - 3.67
E - 0.62 - 0.45 - 0.78

I play with the Braves who are a national league squad so I recently looked at season totals and averages for national league teams only who do not have the DH. The numbers do vary significantly in some categories.

Real MLB National League 2010 Avg., Top and Bottom Team Stats Per Game:
Cat. - AVG - Top - Bottom
Hits - 8.65 - 9.35 - 8.04
Runs - 4.33 - 4.88 - 3.62
HRs - 0.93 - 1.16 - 0.67
2Bs - 1.72 - 1.92 - 1.46
K's - 7.31 - 6.33 - 8.22
BB's - 3.07 - 3.73 - 2.57

You can check out all of my recent box scores in my franchise online via 2k's website here:

Here are some house rules I use for when to swing and what type of swing to use:
- First of all, I usually take until strike 1. If you look at a lot of the high on base percentage MLBers, they do this too. I did it when I played baseball. I do it when I play baseball video games.
- 0-0 and 1-0 counts I pre-load a power swing but will only swing if batters eye lights up and shows it to be a pitch down the middle. This is to jump on those pitchers who groove a first pitch fastball to get an early strike one. Other than that, I'm taking.
- On 2-0, 3-0 and 3-1 counts I power swing freely, as in, if the pitch looks good I will power swing to crush it. No left stick influence. As a real batter does, I'm looking for a good pitch here, probably let something on the corners go by. May also let those big 12-6 curve balls go by because they are a pain to time and usually lead to pop ups.
- On 0-2 and 1-2 counts I'm swinging defensively. Anything close I foul off trying to work the count to more of a hitters count to get a better pitch to hit. Need a good eye here to let the balls go by. I do end up taking some called third strikes here and there.
- On "regular" or "even" counts I contact swing. This includes 0-1, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2. Of course on the 2 strike counts I swing at anything that looks to be a strike. On a 1 strike count I'm a little more selective and might let a strike on the outside corner at the knees go by to wait on a better pitch to hit.

Re: Blazzen's MLB 2K11 Slider's

I'm doing the same thing: pro hitting is a bit too easy, but all-star pitching gives too many hits.

Currently, I'm using all-star hitting, pro pitching, with user pitch control at 20. I'm thinking about bumping it up to 30, though, because i'm walking 5 per game.

They did a good job on the difficulty settings this year, imo.

Re: Blazzen's MLB 2K11 Slider's

Results from first game using all pro except for user hitting on all star and cpu pitching on all star.

Braves (me): 2
Padres: 3

Hansen (87) vs. Stauffer (80)

Offense
Braves: 8 singles, walked 3 times
Padres: 10 singles, 1 triple, walked once

Pitching
Braves: 34 balls, 66 strikes, 8k's, 1 walk, 8ip
Padres: 50 balls, 72 strikes, 2 k's, 1 walks, 9ip

If I had any complaints about this game was all the dink and dunking. I thought I really squared some balls up with Uggla and McCann that ended up in lazy fly balls. Padres have strong pitching so maybe that was it. I think I gave up so many singles from too many first pitch fastball stikes, gotta break that habit. That is also why my pitch count was a bit lower, that and only throwing 8 innings since I was visitor and lost.

All in all this plays a VERY good game of baseball. Going to play more games before making additional adjustments.

Re: Blazzen's MLB 2K11 Slider's

Another game, bumped cpu and user infield/outfielder speed up by 5 points to 25 each.

Phillies 5
Braves (me) 4

Oswalt vs. Jurrjens

Offense:
Braves 8 singles, 1 triple, 1 homerun, 2 walks
Phillies 7 singles, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 2 walks

Pitching
Braves 45 balls, 75 strikes, 2 walks
Phillies 35 balls 71 strikes, 2 walks

Phillies got to Jurrjens early. He gave up 5 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings, though only 3 were earned (untimely error, next batter got 2 run single). Rodrigo Lopez came in long relief and gave up 3 hits no runs in 3 innings and Moyland Pitched a scoreless 8th.

Oswalt was lights out, pumping in strikes. I couldn't work the count because he wasn't throwing any balls, mixed speeds and locations was nasty. Then in the 8th he walked McClouth and Jones back to back with 2 outs. McCann came up and Cranked a 3 run homer.

9th inning and in comes the closer Madson. Bottom of the order up, Gonzalez grounds out, Freeman strikes out, pinch hitter Mather comes up. Hit a liner in the right center gap and got in with a triple without a throw. I think outfielder arms or something will have to be increased, triples too easy to come by. Anyways, Prado singles him in to make it a 1 run game with 2 outs. I sub in Jordan Schafer and steal second easily off of Madson and his slow delivery. Unfortunately Nate McClouth grounds out on the next pitch and the game is over with the tying run left on second base.

Another great game really. Again, I felt like I really squared about 5 balls up on Oswalt with power swings that ended up in fly outs. The home run I hit with McCann was on the outside corner belt high and was an opposite field homer. I had batters eye light up with pitches in the middle of the plate with good timing I flew out on and hit that opposite fielder without batters eye and it was on the corner. Guess it could've been because Oswalt was getting tired.

Maybe some further tweaks to inf/outfielder speed and outfielder arms will be necessary but other than that this game is playing solidly. This year the default sliders are probably the best they've ever been.

Re: Blazzen's MLB 2K11 Slider's

Raised infielder/outfielder speed to 30. Raised infielder/outfielder throwing speed to 60. This is for both cpu and user.

Braves (me) 1
Rockies 4

Offense
Braves 5 singles, 1 triple, 2 walks
Rockies 4 singles, 3 doubles, 1 homerun, 2 walks

Pitching
Braves 50 balls 65 strikes 2 walks 7 ko 8ip
Rockies 44 Balls 79 strikes 2 walks 6 ko 9ip

Just couldn't get the crucial hit when I needed to and they did. Chris Ianetta hit a 2 run homerun that was bull****. Sinker from peter moyland that was ankle high and 3 inches off the outside corner he opposite field golfed it over the right field wall. Ugggghhhh.

Considering raising user batting a little bit but I think im going to wait. I think I can get one more game in tonight, will see how it goes.

My advice, if you want, since I am also using 40/40 for user contact/power.... user hits are okay, the home runs require a bit of effort.

What I've been doing is using the directional stick along with the power swing. The power swing without the directional stick often, for me, results in popups and some line drives, but not many home runs.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump ship. I managed to hit 4 homers with Pujols, two with Rasmus, one with Berkman, and one with Holliday in about 12 games. The real problem will be if the low power guys ever get one out of the park.

Re: Blazzen's MLB 2K11 Slider's

Wow....managed to lose another game.

Braves (me) 3 7 1
Cubs 4 10 0

Minor vs. Silva

Offense
Braves 2 singles, 4 doubles, 1 home run, 3 walks
Cubs 10 singles

Pitching
Braves 34 balls 76 strikes 0 walks, 9 ko, 9ip
Cubs 33 balls 62 strikes 2 walks 9ip

With 2 outs in the top of the third and nobody on...I give up 6 straight singles which amounts to 4 runs. That was their entire offense! I also missed several key opportunities by striking out, grounding into double plays, and not moving runners over. Also was getting impatient at the plate, getting late here and I'm tired.

These sliders are solid. With some more practice at hitting I think I can get to where the game is a challenge but I still win some games (hopefully).

Good night all, happy gaming.

Braves really only have 1 true power hitter (Uggla). I hit a home run with Uggla last game and I also hit one to the track with Brooks Conrad from the left side of the plate where he's only got 63 power. Also hit one with McCann a game or two ago. Think thats 2 home runs in 4 games, that's not horrible.

I think my timing is just bad at the plate right now. I think the pitch speed might be a little slow so when I get a good pitch to hit I'm out in front of it (even fastballs) and when I try to compensate for this and wait on the good pitches I'm waiting too long. Just going to take a little more practice I suppose. This is the first night I've really played several games in a row.
