Talking 'Timing hitting'

I'm having severe problems with timing hitting. Analog hitting isn't my thing. I think the experience is enjoyable on timing hitting, always loved it last year and it yielded extremely sim results on MLB the show '10 on 'All-Star' difficulty.

So this thread should be for suggestions on 'timing hitting' only.

My first experiences on All-Star this year were unrealistic. Using some power swing and contact swing, in my first two games I hit 6 home runs off Zach Greinke, and then 7 the next game against Stephen Strasburg and the nationals. It was too homer happy. Some peers of mine have expressed the same thing.

So then I move the difficulty up to Hall of Fame. Too much the other way now. It's impossible to string together hits and score runs. I was shut out in 2 of the next three games, got a total of 6 hits. One of the games I had a perfect game thrown against me by Clayton Kershaw, and every hit was weak. Many of these were timed up Perfect but 'Just Missed'. This doesn't make sense and really frustrates me. The lone run was on a home run by Aubrey Huff. None of the fleas or weaker hitters in the lineup will ever get close to hitting a home run on this difficulty.

Then I went back to All-Star difficulty and clicked the power down one notch. Gameplay felt bottled and bugged. I hit nothing but weak singles and nothing close to resembling a home run. On the swing feedback--I noticed that when I swung, the circle would be on the opposite side or often no where close to where the baseball was in the zone. Even when I would time balls up perfect and guess pitch perfect, the ball wasn't well struck at all. Again, completely different from last year's game.

One thing I need answered: is the cursor different this year or Plate Coverage Indicator? I noticed on the swing feedback that for some reason in the first two games I played hitting all those home runs and crushing baseballs, it seemed that it didn't need any type of adjustment. This was consistent with how gameplay was last year in MLB the Show '10. On All Star I never used anything to adjust where I was swinging in the zone. If the timing was good, the ball was well struck and the circle was around, on, or near the ball in the zone although it was imaginary.

So what is different with the 'circle' or plate coverage indicator this year? What do I need to set it to or do to make hitting fun again and realistic? For the life of me, I cannot figure out how guys are hitting home runs and scoring 7 runs on 'Legend' or 'Hall of Fame' difficulty when I cannot hit a ball out of the infield. But I feel that it has something to do with the circle or plate coverage indicator. Can someone help with this in regards to timing hitting?

Also, when people say "maybe you're just not that good' it's a real annoyance to me. On last year's game on All-Star difficulty, the games were a challenge, always close except for the normal amount of convincing wins and I had jumped out to a 30-13 start per say in one of my dynasties. So basically what I'm saying is I'm a player who knows what they are doing, knows how to play this game and knows how to hit. Something is DRASTICALLY different and its affecting my ability to enjoy this game.

So in regards to timing hitting, how can I make it more realistic, and how can I make it so the cursor or circle isn't such a great influence?

So which are you mostly, late or early when swinging? Maybe all you need to adjust would be the pitch speed.

I play on HOF, timing only and hit perfectly fine.

I know its an old adage Rick but it really is all about practice practice practice.

Go into the BP cage and do "Discipline" training over and over again, you will get there.

Can you do timing only hitting with the right analog stick or is timing only a button option?

Two things, first a question:

1) What are you doing with the left joystick? Are you doing anything to influence the PCI cursor? Or are you just timing it up good with the buttons? And I need to do something to turn the PCI cursor effect off?

2) Never needed to practice to get good results on last year's game. So something is drastically different in the equation is my point.

1. Nothing. The left stick is not used whatsoever in timing hitting. The reason your PCI is sometimes not where the ball is down to player ratings/attributes, and it should be, as otherwise as soon as someone mastered timing hitting you could get any old scrub hitting like Pujols.

2. You dont need to practice to get good results on this years game, i dont and hit fine.

Games been out officially 1 day, you need to simply give it time mate and dont make judgments on 1 or 2 games, baseball is a game of variation, you can just as easily win 13-11 as you can lose the next game 1-0.

So what skill level are you playing on right now? Any tweaks? I'm telling you, something is different in the 'pudding' this year. I'm not crazy but I bet if the code was revealed, SCEA did something. It's too weird how this has happened in regards to last year's game.
