Zab Judah new junior welterweight champ !

He did his thing and KO'ed Mabuza in the 7th round. Zab hit him so hard it sent him half way through the ropes....

If he had more discipline and a better trainer that focused on boxing 100% of the time, Zab could have been dominating for the past decade.

Just watched the fight on yt. I've been a fan of Zab since his fight with Ward. Like you mentioned in your post, I wish he would have went with another trainer earlier on. I'm always going to think that Zab has a shot at the big names. I'll back him no matter who he is fighting. I have to admit I was really impressed with the changes he has made. Not only does it show he is coachable, but he is still learning. Just a few things I noticed. Defense was really nice, but after he finishes a bob/weave, if he doesn't step out after, he comes up with his hands down. I'm sure Whitaker will work on that in the next training camp. Nice ring movement. He was committed to circling to his right, instead of coming straight in and used very few angles. The counter-jab was a nice additon as well. I would like to see him use it more, but in time I guess.

His offense and defense seems a bit fragemented, but it's to be expected when he is incorporating a lot of new things. I can't wait till it all comes together. I'd like to see him in 2 or 3 more easy fights to get down the new style, but I don't think he's going to do that. Maybe it's just me (and I know he's getting a little older), but it seems like Judah is fighting to the speed level of his opponent. Nice performance and I think he got a bit of confidence in his stamina.
