Slow 5 Star Skill Possession Players

I've had this happen before where I grab the #3 WR in the nation and he has 84 speed. Right now I picked up a 5 Star HB and he comes in with 82 speed. Is he playable? I have him redshirting.... I know, I know, you can see the speed grade while recruiting but I figured the 5 stars must mean he is excellent in other areas. Is excelling with 81 OVR rating and 82 spd feasible? I'm concerned by LB's with 88 Spd lol

Breakaway speed is nice, but given a choice I'll take acceleration and the ability to break/avoid tackles. Other really important attributes are his carry rating and his stamina. If he's going to get a lot of carries you don't want him fumbling constantly or getting tired after every carry. Although you can get around this with a more varied offense and/or two back system. I also like a decent injury rating so I'm not losing the guy to a blown knee after 2 weeks.

Re: Slow 5 Star Skill Possession Players

Like Bullet said, acc is a key rating this year. You can have a guy with 84spd but 90's in acc and he will play like a 90 spd guy from NCAA 10. At the same time you can have a guy with 93spd and 79acc and he will not be as productive. Try to recruit more based on acc rating vs 40 time.

As for the LB's, they have unreal speed in this game. Wait until you get 6 years in and all the original roster is gone. If you face one of the big boys (Bama, Ohio St, Texas, Miami) and they have LB's with high 80's speed and low 90's acc. They will eat you alive. They are all over the field making plays. I didn't even try to run the ball against those teams because they would take the handoff before you do.

Re: Slow 5 Star Skill Possession Players

I have a RB who has 97 speed but 80 acc (track guy I guess). Then on the flip side I have a guy who has 83 speed but 95 acc, with higher btk rating than the other RB. The guy with the 95 acc plays a lot better cause he can get through the holes quicker, break tackles better, and cut a lot quicker. However, I use the 97 speed guy for things like returns, reverses where he's getting a running start. He really excels at things like that. So you just have to use them to their strengths which is what a good coach does.

That's because you can abuse their 5-star corners and strong safeties, who average 81 speed, 77 acceleration.

True, the speed of LB's and speed of DB's is real tilted toward the LB's in this game. This game has huge holes in it due to poor ratings. Just another example of why we need to be able to fully edit players inside the dynasty mode. The poor ratings killed game play for me and killed the game itself. We, the gamer, need the power to make the game the way we want it vs the way EA wants us to play.

I wouldn't say star ratings are meaningless, but they shouldn't be the main thing you look at. I've had countless times where 4 star players had higher attributes than my 5 stars, atleast as freshmen.

Look more closely at their actual attribute ratings. For RB's, Speed/Acc/Agility/Break Tackle/carrying, etc (not in any particular order)

I guess I'm not sure that a fully editable roster within Dynasty would really accomplish much. I have spent a lot of time with Dynasty, and to think that the "fix" would be free editing, I think I'll pass. It would help, sure, but at the cost of time, and I mean A LOT of time.

Short of an actual fix within the recruit generation engine, maybe the ability to download/upload recruiting classes would help. I wouldn't mind being able to put a class on a spreadsheet and edit that way, but within the game itself would take too long.

As an aside, something that I would like to see when creating recruits is the ability to pick their pitches. Or, pick their "Most" with all others being random. (I also don't think that pitches should be able to be swayed.)
