Re: The Day - NASCAR - Must watch

Man...so hard to watch. I have watched 3 times this week, and it just doesn't get easier. I hated the man as a driver, and it really is time to move on, but this is such an excellent piece.

Dale was my hero not only for how great of a driver he was but also for the person he was. He did many things for many people less fortunate than him not for the glory of doing it ( he never wanted it to be known he was doing something) but he did it because it was the right thing to do. I miss him and miss seeing that black 3 on the track, the sport has not been the same since his passing.

Re: The Day - NASCAR - Must watch

Glad to hear you guys like it. I work for NASCAR Media Group in Charlotte and worked on this show for the last month. The interviews are very powerful and a few of the guys in there had never sat down in front of a camera to tell their story. Ty Norris was by far the most descriptive about the day.

This show could have easily been two hours long. Cutting it down to an hour was super tough.

What a fantastic piece. Thank you for sharing this. I was never the biggest Dale fan growing up, but I do remember that Daytona 500 like it was yesterday. The words that stick with me the most are when Daryl Waltrip says "Dale's got to be okay, right?". Tragedy, how his younger brother wins and Dale passes on. Again kudos to the makers of this show and thanks again for sharing.

This was a great peice of work my wife watched it and she never was into nascar until we got married 6 years ago, she has heard me tell her many of Dale Earnhardt stories and about races that attended and Dale had won and she never really got why I admired this man so much but after seeing this she understands more. Thank you for your and everyone else who worked on this.

If anyone hasn't read Michael Waltrip's new book you should. It is a very touching story that will make you laugh and cry. Definately one of the best books I have ever read.
