How do you stop the middle of the field TE pass?

in our online dynasty, one of the guys plays w/ notre dame and he passes to the tight end in the middle of the field ALL THE TIME, and its always open.

ive tried everything to stop it. man, zone, 4-4, blitz, cloud, press, cover 2. nothing works. ive tried covering him, but it barely stops him. as it is, i like using a d-line player, and not coverig (since im not that great at it).

is there any way to stop it? what about cover 1?

any suggestions would be much appreciated...

and yes, i finally beat him even though he kept passing to the tight end in the middle of the field. pissed me off b/c it seems like cheese to me to keep using the same damn play.

It's not cheese just because you can't stop it. To beat it you are going to need to take control and cover him yourself. You can also try putting your best press covereage cb on him going to press and blitzing. Since it seems he doesn't have the skill to throw to the outside you should be able to stop him that way without getting beat deep.

Control a safety or linebacker and cover the tight end.

You have to use a mix of coverage, Blitz and zone blitz. In addition to controlling a defender who can influence the middle of the field (FS, SS, MLB). I like to take the FS and sit under routes in the middle. Leaves the top of my defense vulnerable but its part of the chess match I suppose.

Yup ^ I just under cover routes with my FS

You have to manually cover stuff like that or get pressure on the QB. On this game if a guy cuts across the middle deep he'll be open every time (or enough of the time that it will hurt you.) Defenders just flat out refuse to cover that route and it doesn't really matter much if you call man/zone. In man the guy always gets beat to the inside, in zone too often the defenders end up way too deep or shallow to cover it.

It will pay off in the end. It's nearly impossible to play defense in this game without controlling a secondary player.
