Discussing Banned Members

Hey guys, I'm wondering if there has been any thought given to a side forum or thread about banned members where the mod can explain why the user was banned and reveal how long. It could help end the debates and discussions that occur in other threads (the OT thread notably), even if the banned forum was done in a way where members couldn't reply.

It was just something I noticed on another site, they called it "village of the banned" and it looked like it ran pretty smoothly. An example would be if I was banned for inappropriate language while in the NCAAF forum, a thread titled "l3ulvl" would appear in the village of the banned forum and the mod who banned me would just type "inappropriate language in NCAAF, 1 month ban" or something similar.

When someone gets banned they receive a Red Card first. You can read why the member was banned by looking at their infraction.

This is true, but not for all bannings (is that a word?). I have come across a banned member and never found a red carded post in their recent post history. I assume it was most likely a PM attacking a mod, but I never knew exactly what it was. It would be nice if there was some sort of organized menu of recently banned members or something like that and read their red cards. Not only would this be for entertainment purposes, it would actually be helpful IMO. We have the TOS, but there is no real examples in the TOS (that I know of), and this would provide concrete examples of why users were banned.

Re: Discussing Banned Members

I think a forum is a bad idea. 1) 90% or more of banned users have red cards that explain why they were banned. Some fall through the cracks but most have cards. 2) Alot of decisions regarding bans are at the discretion of the mod. The last thing I want is some guy who is mad their friend was banned calling me out in a forum and forcing me to explain why this person was banned. 3) Either Mil would have to make changes to the forum that caused a thread to be created everytime someone is banned or every mod would have to create one when they ban someone. I'm not a fan of adding more work to a job that is completely volunteer work and does not involve any payment.

Re: Discussing Banned Members

Back in the day, we had a thread called the OS Graveyard. When someone got banned, it was posted in there. I forget what happened to it.

But at one point, we had a thread for it. Obviously, it didn't work is my point.

Re: Discussing Banned Members

It seems to me that mods parading the dead through the streets of downtown would fuel perceptions of arrogance and disrespect, and make the relationship between mods and other posters combative.

I don't like the idea at all
