Expansion Team Set Up
Hey Guys,
I know this was done last year but I'm trying to put together rules and player protections for a mock expansion draft. I figured I could throw it out there since you all know your teams better than I do.
What I did last year was take a roster file and pick which team I planned on replacing. Then I would trade all the players I planned on adding in the custom roster setting of created team to the team I planned on replacing. So if I took the Rams and wanted to have Chester Taylor as my RB (overpaid, not very good) then I would either drop Steven Jackson or trade him to the Bears.
So in the roster file, Chestor Taylor is now on the Rams and when I replace the Rams with my created team, he isn't lost in the replacing process. It does create some problems of which team is getting Steven Jackson or who signs him in FA, but your team will resemble an expansion team (a couple high paid, under achieving players and lots of just bad players).
When you start the franchise, you can sim the first season and trade your draft picks so you get the No. 1 pick like an expansion team would.
Seems like a lot of work, but I'd like to start with a depleted roster and build from there. I know you can make a cupcake created team but then it's fake players, and you are still losing a full team when they are replaced.
The expansion rules with protections is each team unprotects 5 guys. Only one can have 10+ years experience and none can be entering FA or RFA. And no kickers or punters. The expansion team has to take on 38% of the salary cap in salary or 30 players (whichever comes first).
I'll start with the Bears (I don't have access to my game right now, so if any of these are FA, my mistake)
Chester Taylor
Tommie Harris (I know he's good in the game, but he's considered overpaid and lazy in real life)
Anthony Adams
Joshua Moore
Roberto Garza
